Next-gen Audi S5 getting V6 engine

Audi’s decision to downsize the engine in the recently revealed S4 range from a naturally-aspirated V8 in the previous model to a forced-induction V6 is set to be repeated for a number of important performance models from the Germany luxury carmaker.

According to latest reports the facelifted S5 sports coupe, due next year, will drop its current 349hp (260kW) 4.2L V8 mill in favor of a 329hp (245kW) supercharged 3.0L V6.

Is the weight dropping as well? If so, no harm done. It would probably handle better as well.

New S4 has the all new Supercharged V6 so i think it was expected that the facelifted S5 will also get the new engine. Btw faclifted S5 with supercharged V6(probably 2010) versus current S5 with V8 would be intresting.

Sad to see they're dropping the V8. The power from the V6 is nice, but it can't match the awesome sound of the V8.

Ya it's a trade off. The V6T (most likely supercharged though) should produce the performance, and help save $ on Gas, however the V8 just sounds so sexy. Let's hope the V6T is lighter as well, hopefully that'll help it be faster too.

Face lift already? To be honest, The A5/S5 though nice looking didn't really get me going.

Now all they (Audi) need to do is figure out how to give the A5/S5 a real Sunroof.

It won't get a facelift until at least 2010, MY 2011.
