2010 Mercury Milan & Mercury Milan Hybrid Launched in L.A.

In tandem with its Ford Fusion fraternal twin, the 2010 Mercury Milan, which debuts later today in Los Angeles, receives restyled front and rear ends plus the same powertrain upgrades with the exception of the 3.5-liter V6 in the Fusion Sport model.

Joining the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner Hybrids Ford is adding a new hybrid model for the 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. Based on the new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine (155 horsepower/136 lb.-ft. of torque), 93 kW electric motor, lighter nickel-metal hydride battery, electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission or e-CVT and regenerative brake system, the Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion hybrids can operate up to 47 mph in pure electric mode. City driving range on a single tank of gas is expected to be more than 700 miles.

The current front fascia is certainly more attractive, but this hybrid technology looks pretty promising, with its claim of far superior (overall) fuel efficiency than the Camry/Altima technology twins.

Classy little car. A lot of car for a miser’s budget.
The Mercury brand is nice because they offer a lot of value for the money.

Mercurys are only slightly more money than a Ford, but are more non-descript so you don’t look like you are a miser with a plain silver grille and blue oval.

People in Sales or Service, who need to provide a company car can buy Mercurys at low cost, get a great warranty, and drive something that look respectable without braking the bank.

Lincoln Mercury cars all use Ford parts that are plentiful and very low cost to buy. If you have a Cadillac, you pay big bucks to replace a Cadillac Starter. BMW, you pay a premium for BMW parts and higher maintenance costs.

Ford seems to be well positioned with Direct Injection Engines, Turbo Chargers and Twin-Clutch Paddle Shift transmissions coming.

Looks like Ford’s R&D investments are paying off.
Ford has long been the leader in triple 5-star crash ratings as well so I feel extremely safe driving their products.

Another brand that serves no purpose and is a waste of money for Ford.
Do people still buy Mercury's? I've yet to see a single new Mercury every time i'm in the States.

To this day I still am confused about what Mercury's purpose is for Ford. Ford is the economy brand and Lincoln is the luxury brand. Mercury is a filler brand?

It seems like Ford is very hard at work trying to make more fuel efficient cars...whereas GM is banking on hybrid trucks and the Volt.

GM has the most fuel efficient cars as it stands. That is overlooked by the fact it owns Hummer and Escalades.
