LA AUTO SHOW EXCLUSIVE STUD OR DUD? Did Infiniti One Up BMW's 3 Series Cabrio With The G37 Convertible?
The 2008 LA Auto Show has barely begun, and 001 was the first to give you access to the show floor BEFORE it opened to the press!

But while most of the headlining cars were safely covered, our 001 just happened to find that someone at Infiniti had slipped up an inadvertently left the all new G37 convertible uncloaked.

Now as we all know any self respecting spy will take this as an open invitation to let you be the first to judge just how well Infiniti did with their first convertible in quite sometime.

And I have to say it looks very nice with the top up.

But does it look a nice as the BMW 3 Series Cabrio does with the top in place?

So with the first real life pictures from the show.  I just have to ask is Infiniti's new G37 convertible a Stud or  A Dud?

LA Auto Show Photo Gallery

Keep checking back tonight as we should have more surprises later...

this year's gallery is sponsored by Lexus

One thing's for certain...

This is easily the best looking of all current retractable-roof coupes with its top up.

It's neither as ungainly looking as the Lexus IS250 nor is it as disjointed and inharmonious as the BMW 328/335.

Great Job Nissan/Infiniti

You forgot the Volvo C70. The G37 with its top up seems to have a disembodied C70 roof, which looks much better on the Volvo.

Its certainly not a dud, but I'm not sure I'd call it a stud either, but it is close. Imo, I think the 3 series is better looking, as always, I'll make my final judgement when I see it in person.

Looks kinda dated to me.
The basic style has been around a little too long.
The 3-series look better - top up and down.
And the BMW 1-series 135i Cabrio kicks the G37s ass in performance, looks and price - IMO.

I cant stand people who stick pictures of their baby everywhere - no one cares about your cute baby, or the fact that it's "on board" of your car - so put that stupid window sticker away.

This is a GREAT looking car. Bravo Nissan. Too bad Nissan's other offerings look like retarded Shark cartoons.

Looks nice....I think we can officially crown this G37 cab as the new 'Queen of the Chick Cars'

Or would it be princess of the chick cars?

:-)

I think the G37 looks great with the top down in the press release pics. However, I'm not liking the top up look. Personally, I see too much of the Chrysler Sebring's elongated roof in the design.

Infiniti absolutely one-upped the frumpy IS convertible. However, my money would still go to a 328i or 335i convertible.

I agree!

The first pic reminds me of the Lexus SC 400 in the last two-thirds of the car.

Anybody else see some SC 400 in it?

Anyways, somebody a while back stated that Infiniti was hiding something by only showing initial press-pics of the G Coupe with the top-down. These pics squash that myth.

It looks incredible.

Ah, didn't realize you beat me to it. Glad the C70 is getting its props around here. It's not a very compelling option but if there's one thing that car does right, it's the look.

With the top up it not nice, it looks off. But with the top down it looks just sexy. So I say the BMW looks better with the top up and the G37 looks better with its top down.

The BOTH look funny as Hardtop Droptops, it would be a Money thing, if i had 40-45 to spend between the two, i would get the Infiniti... BUT, again i say, BUT, if money was no object, id Snatch that 09' Drop M3, No Question.

Looks pretty good. I am not a convertible guy and would take the coupe of the convertible all day long, but this does look pretty nice. Definetly think it looks better than the 3 series convertible.

DUD!!! With the top up at least. All I see (side view) is Crysler Sebring with its top up! YIKES!

looks very good to me. And redesigned bumper also looks better than the one on the coupe.

Stud.

INFINITI G37 OPEN/CLOSE HARDTOP IN 30 SECOND.
LEXUS IS250C OPEN/CLOSE HARDTOP IN 21 SECOND.
BMW 335 OPEN/CLOSE HARDTOP IN 23 SECOND.

This is why I hate hardtop convertibles. People are constantly comparing them, seeing which one is the ugliest. Know why? They're ugly.

Ahem. FOUR-SEAT hardtop convertibles. The Merc SL looks amazing with the top up.

I have never been overly found of either brand, but if I was forced to choose, I would take the G37, as I think it looks a lot better than its competition.

StarStar - 11/20/2008 7:14:34 PM

The G37 it's a cheaply built Japanese econobox. It competes with Crysler Sebring convertible, not the mighty BMW.

Looks Nice, but the 3 series cabrio looks much better.
