Law Makers Approve Short Term Bailout With Conditions
Congressional leaders from the House and Senate today gave a press conference on the how they plan to move forward with the Detroit 3 bailout.

The congressional leaders indicated they are unanimously committed to helping the automakers, in a non-partisan way, but not immediately, and on conditions.

The leaders said GM, Chrysler, and Ford would have to provide congress with detailed plans on how they would use loan money in order to achieve future financial viability, stability, and profitability.

You know back when NISSAN was hurting and Renault was willing to lend NISSAN millions, CEO Bob Lutz said "you might as well drop all of that money in the middle of the ocean because NISSAN won't make it"

I say give the big 3 all the money they want but please don't blame the American people once you get the outcome :)

There is a much simpler private-sector solution: merge GM, Ford and Chrysler with common stock in the new entity distributed to existing shareholders according to the respective market share of the three companies during the last 12 months or so, and convertible preferred stock distributed pro rata according to the amount of cash and equivalent liquid assets that each of the three companies brings to the new entity. The new entity would shed all money-losing car models and operate as a smaller but survivable all-American car company.

I keep hearing on the news if the Big 3 sell thier corporate jets it will get people back into the showrooms and buying the cars.

What a bunch of hog wash!

Does Toyota have to sell their jets?

The Big 3 need to tell the UAW to go to hell and that is how they will lower the price of cars and get people back into the showrooms.

BTW, look at those wimpy misfits in that photo.

They have plans but they're not sure if these will work. So the CEOs won't imitate Lee Iaccoca by volunteering not to get any salary as long as the loans are not repaid. Clearly, these companies have no real picture of how they will repay the bailout money, much less the when.
