2010 Ford Fusion and Fusion Hybrid pricing released

First point - the Hybrid Fusion competes with the Hybrid Camry not the Insight.

Second Point - The Fusion blows away the Hybrid Camry in city MPGs.

Third Point - The Fusion is a FULL hybrid, unlike the Honda which is just a mild hybrid.

Fourth Point - Honda has yet to produce a FULL hybrid, they have only been able to buid mild hybrids unlike Toyota and Ford which have built full hybrids for years.

Fifth Point - How did the Accord (mild) Hybrid do anyway?

Sixth Point - Honda has yet to produce a 6 speed automatic, but I digress.

Seventh Point - why doesn't the Honda Fit bet better highway mileage? Have you compared it to cars much bigger than the Fit? but I digress further.

Honda does not need a hybrid to get over 30mpg in a car. Ford cant even get 20 hwy in their suv.

Actually the 1.5L Fit only gets 33 mpg while the larger Ford Focus with a 2.0L engine gets 35 mpg.

QUESTION: Why does the smaller Fit get such poor mileage in comparison to the larger Ford?

QUESTION: Why does a V6 Honda Ridgeline only get 20mpg when you can buy a real truck, with a V8 and get 21 mpg?

QUESTION: Why does a Honda CRV only get 20/27 while the Ford Escape gets 22/28?

It sounds as if you are not too knowledgeable about these items.

Actually I am reading the EPA mileage figures, something you may want to consider doing. Otherwise you just continue to demonstrate your ignorance.

kyle, the fit's mileage according to the epa's site is A-5 27/34 mpg
M-5 28/34 mpg
As5- 27/33 there sports version
The Focus
A-4 24/33 mpg
m-5 24/35 mpg average of 1.5 mpg lower than the fit, impressive for a larger car
and the crv gets 20/26 not as good as the Escape but close.
These are 2008 numbers.
And this Ford is 6 mpg better on gas in the city as the famed Camry hybrid.

They can be considered a hybrid leader but thats only because there hybid technology is a toyota patent.

I'm glad ford is finally producing good looking cars and their reliability is up too. Looks like ford is heading in the right direction compared to the other detroit two.

Ford payed Toyota to use their patents for a few years because their in house system (Gen I) was similar and they didn't want to face copyright infringement. Ford did NOT buy Toyota's tech like Nissan is doing. Ford may not actually still be paying Toyota for their patent.

Either way Ford is using Ford technology.

Thats absolutely correct, Ford did NOT pay for any patents from Toyota. They swapped licensing agreements on the CVT control software because the Prius and Escape use the same CVT transmission.

IN FACT, it was Toyota who was sued and lost in court for infringing patented hybrid technology owned by an American company. The US Supreme Court recently upheld the judgement against Toyota. Here is the article.

Good for Ford for producing an efficient hybrid! Better than the famed Camry Hybrid! Unfortunately the price is outrageous compared to there base model! $8,000. difference from the base line to the hybrid, that is a lot of gas, and in five to eight years you will have to spend another $5,000. dallars or so for new batteries.There is no cheap escape! (no pun intended)

The batteries have an 8 year warranty.

The equipment level of the hybrid Fusion is a lot great than the base Fusion.

There is a tax credit from the Feds for more than a couple grand on the Fusion. And you can't get that on the Camry Hybrid.

Thanks Kyle, there may be light at the end of the tunnel after all. I wonder if the 2010 camry will improve? This Fusion looks great.
