2010 Nissan GT-R to reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds without launch control

If Nissan priced the GT-R higher they would be running the risk of potential consumers abandoning it in favor of something pricier but with brand prestige, like a Ferrari or Porsche for instance. The GT-R is priced according to Nissan philosophies: affordable compared to its competitors.

You do realize he is patronizing BMW supporters right?

Badgewhore: BMW owners have no other reason to have purchased their vehicles besides the badge. I guess the fact that every single auto maker spending BILLIONS trying to match the performance and feel of the BMW is meaningless. They could have saved all of that money by modifying the roundel a bit.

If they switched off the stability/traction controls and didn't use launch control, could it have come in a little faster than 3.9, or do you guys think it'd be slower?

So is Nissan still going to honor warranties when there tranny goes? Nissan will look at there black box and say "you have been utilizing the power too much to achieve this 0-60 time! Hate mail please.lol

And Drivers Republic has a 997.2 S PDK v. GTR acceleration video - guess which non-turbo car handily out accelerates the turbo car. Can't get away from that 4000 lb Hogzilla mass.

I dont think that video is a regular 997 with pdk, it was a GT-2, which is a turbo car but without the AWD.

The video I am referring to came about about a month or two ago. It was a '09 C2S with PDK v. Hogzilla.

The new Drivers Republic article referred to here pits the GT2 and hogzilla.

Just saw the video, is the PDK that good? I can't wait to see the Turbo PDK against the GTR. That would be an apples/apples comparison, take human element of shifting out of the equation.

That's funny how Inside line got a way different 0-60 time...

Our test of a Japanese-spec model, which is easily the quickest GT-R we've ever tested thanks to high-octane Japanese fuel, proved how much launch control aids Godzilla's holeshot: Zero to 60 mph required 4.5 seconds (4.0 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The quarter-mile slowed to 12.2 seconds. That's a full second slower to 60 (no rollout) and a half-second slower in the quarter mile than the last GT-R press car we tested using launch control."

I guess the magazine that post the fastest 0-60 is the most credible? Who would have thought!!!

those times are basically the same as MotorTrend, who I believe uses the 1 ft of rollout (as do Car and Driver, Road and Track, etc.).

So in essence not having launch control makes the GT-R on par with or slightly quicker than an M3, C63, CTS-V, Porsche 911 Carrera S, Audi R8, etc. Still quick, but not the world beater (acceleration-wise anyway) that it seemed to be last year.

The new carrera s is a great car but in the real world its not a sub 4 second car. My friend has plenty of videos of his bmw 335i vs a carrera s (only without pdk)on youtube, doing a couple of runs. The bmw had a ECU pigyback added ,which brought the power to 360hp and 400 lb feet of torque at the crank, not wheels. As you oculd see fromthe video, the porsche gets left behind pretty quickly. THe bmw was clocked at 4.5 without roll out and 4.2 with it. 0-60, PDK only reduces your time by about .2 seconds, there is no way that a carrera S is a 3.9 second car.

TurboSpyder, great, that would make it virtually dead even with the GT-R and every other car I just said. That was the point. They're all quick, the GT-R just isn't quick as the 2008 models that had Self Destruct Mode standard.

That is the best 70K you could ever spend!!!

GTR will always be faster but Porsche is considered a more classy elegent car (see interior).

If your a Fast and Furious kinda guy trying to impress Michelle Rodriguez types then GTR is for you. If you are looking for Heidi Klum and Giselle Bundchen then Porsche is the way to go.

No point to argue back and fourth. Both are equally good.
