Bmw considering a “shooting brake” version for its 1-Series

Even though Bmw lately brought its 1-Series to the US, only the coupe and convertible body styles were available to American customers. However, on the other side the ocean Bmw makes available the 1-Series in 3- and 5-door hatchbacks in addition to those that are available in the US markets mentioned above. That range appears to be growing to five models as Bmw is reportedly thinking about one more 1-Series derivative.

According to Bmw’s product development head, Klaus Draeger, the German carmaker is thinking about a ’shooting brake’ variant of the 1-Series. The shooting brake would be identical in concept to the 3-door 1-Series, but would adopt the flowing lines and low-positioned roof of a two-door coupe.

lol @ shooting brake, the 1 series "HATCHBACK" was out long before the coupe, im not sure it would be a good idea for the us maybe a sedan, and smaller engines that the I6, would make sense, hatches arent very big here

I think they should resurect the 2.5 6cyl engine as the entry motor for the 3-series, as well as 1-series. Or, just give us the kick-ass 4 cyl diesel engines from Europe!

No...it's not. I was in Europe recently and saw a slew of these. They are FUGLY FUGLY FUGLY cars especially from the rear.

I knew that ugly 1-series thing wouldn't sell well here...maybe more variations will help.

The BMW 1-series hatchback looks like sh;t. Have you seen one up close? It's uglier than Ugly Betty.

The only thing *almost* attractive is the fascia; nothing else on the car looks like it belongs.

I'd take a Peugeot hatch any day over BMW, if only on styling.
