RUMOR: Will The Cancelled BMW CS Concept Be Re-incarnated as a Rolls-Royce?

The hottest rumor i came upon at the LA Auto show was that the BMW CS concept although cancelled, was going to be re-incarnated by the Gents over at Rolls-Royce and become a straight on competitor, to the Aston Martin Rapide.

And boy, was I digging THAT when I heard the rumor.

So I at the BMW/Rolls dinner i approached a couple execs and asked them flat out if I was on to something.

And the answer was...

NOT gonna happen.

So I went into my diatribe telling them that it might be an awesome idea if they really DID build a Rolls Rapide competitor.

And they countered with their reasons which right now I don't remember, nor do I want to because I want one!

So I said to them, why don't we pose the question to the most affluent and knowledgeable auto people on the planet (The AutoSpies.com reader) and get their opinions on the subject.

So do you think Rolls should resurrect the CS Design and Rolls-ify it, in order to have a less expensive Bentley/Aston competitor that talks to a whole new market?

The economy ain't what it used to be, so maybe this is an idea with wings?

I don't think it's good idea, Rolls are known to be huge, traditional, artful...etc and 4 door coupe is a smallish, new/modern and fashionable idea.
Aston Martin is different, they are a sports cars company and are more about performance, design, stylish interiors so they entering 4 door coupe segment with rapide seems fine and suits them.

A more affordable Rolls (as rumored) is much better idea. Be it in sedan, coupe or cabriolet form. More affordable, less weight, bit sportier and fuel efficient are about enough improvements Rolls should make/require.

Rolls Royce do not make either low, cramped cars nor do they make sports cars. A Rolls Royce 4 door coupe is ridiculous.

I've got the same problem!

Have you ever noticed how 001 frequently manages to work photos of beautiful women into his posts? I kinda wonder how long 001's marriages last. (Unless of course he is married to someone like Diane Ladd or Catherine Deneuve, i.e. a beautiful but classy older woman who has no reason to be jealous.)

With the current economic client a Rolls Rapide/CS is just not going to happen. Today Porsche announced due to declining profits they are not ready financially to assume control of VW- yet.Lambo shutting down local dealers, the list goes on and on.

I for one plan on selling my kid into bondage, embezzle my company, rob all the local girl scout cookie stands and then get myself a RAPIDE....

Ok, ok, maybe just sell my kid into bondage then...

just my opinion but does I cant see how the CS would fit the rolls royce brand other than maybe allowing BMW to charge more for the car. With all the new lower end cars coming from BMW a high end flagship would help to even out an z2, x1, and whatever else they decide to do. but it jsut doesnt fit the upright styling of a rolls
