Nissan 370Z goes from 0 to 60 in the same time as the BMW M3

Nissan 370Z goes from 0 to 60 in the same time as the BMW M3
The other day during Thanksgiving dinner a couple of us were arguing about the 0 to 60 time of the new 332-hp 2009 Nissan 370Z as reported by CARandDRIVER. The automotive enthusiast magazine said that the new Z goes from rest to 60 in 5 seconds which seemed a bit awkward to us since the new Z is smaller, lighter and more powerful this year.

Well, to our delight Motor Trend has just released their figures and they have reported a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.7 seconds. Motor Trend also reported a quarter mile run of 13.3 seconds at 105.7 mph. Pretty impressive for a car that starts at $29,930. For arguments sake the new $57,500 BMW M3 Coupe also does 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 second and the $56,610 Lexus IS-F reports a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.6 seconds.

Motortrend also had a sport package on the car that adds massive wheels with slick tires. The car they used will be $40k easily.

I think the Genesis coupe might come really close to this car. Same weight distribution with a little less power. Only time will tell. Hopefully the Genesis Coupe will be just as capable.

The BMW 335 is the same 0 to 60, but the M3 hardly. Most M3 tests have come in at the 4.1, 4.2 range. It is still nice to know, that every manufacturer has the M3 in their sights as the benchmark to beat

apples to oranges...

370Z 0-60 time as tested is 4.7s (motortrend).

M3's 0-60 time as tested is 4.1s (motortrend).

The 4.7s for the M3 is the estimate. So why include estimates or factory claims against magazine tested times? thats really apples and oranges...

While very impressive the 370Z can't come close to the acceleration of the M3. Rediculous statement, who wrote that anyway?

you can bet the M3 will beat it on the track! This Z is not in the same legue as any M.

You guys deboost me all you want, 4.1 0-60, 12.5 at 115 mph trap speed would blow away the Z. No disrespect to the Z, its way way less expensive, and the car I would choose in that price range.

4.7 seconds, huh. Still not quite fast enough to outrun its retarded looks.

And someone should tell the writer here that acceleration doesn't stop at 60; the M3 is another timezone by the time this thing hits the end of the quarter. And they should also tell him/her that this thing, with its big bloated goofy sounding v6 with suppoosedly 332 hp, is merely a match for the less-powerful 135. Funny how that keeps happening. Maybe someday nissan will find those lost ponies, or stop advertising what isn't there.

i might get this over the 335i...its really impressive and there will be a flood of aftermarket parts for the 370z as well

Whoa, I thought the 335i went against the G35/G37. Nissan created 2 vehicles to compete against the 3 series?

Interesting .....

The 5 series is more $$$ then the A6
The 7 series is more $$$ then the A8
and depending if you are comparing the 2.0t Audi vs NA V6 3 series, the 3 series is more expensive then the A4 too.

Nissan setup the same comparisons and claims when the last Z came out. "Setup" is the operative word here. After the short lived hype the last Z did not nothing. I wonder what will be the fate of this one? I could probable make an accurate guess....

really it is not like the old Z are high demand used car!

and I don't see any racing series built around the old Z or is it a platform for world class race cars?

well, consider the Z is already a 3.7L coupe. its only 0.3L smaller than the M3.
and Z is a 2seats coupe which is mean to be more sporty than BMW's luxury performance car.

4.7 sec is reasonable, i think.
it will be interesting to see the next gen Z4 with a tt3.0L to compare with the new Z.
cant wait to see that~

and maybe few years later, Z4 M vs more hardcore version of 370Z???

370z 1/4 mile 13.3 @ 105.7 mph
M3 1/4 mile 12.7 @ 111.3 mph

Basically that means @ the 1/4 mile mark, the M3 will be 5 car lengths ahead and gaining.

They are in different leagues, but for the price, the Z is a GREAT BUY!!!

Yep. 0-60 time is only a single piece of the equation.

This should be a damn fine car, though. Can't wait to see it.
