Why a Highlander? Puke. The last version was nicer, smaller, and more stylish. This new one is larger and ugly. I like nothing about the new Highlanders. I would just assume move up to a 4 Runner.

Speaking of the Ford sales. My gf just bought a 2009 Mercury Mariner V6 fully loaded. Very nice looking and a good upgrade from the Escape. One of my uncles, and an Aunt both drive Ford Escapes and they have had 0 problems with them, they are nice little SUVs if you ask me for the price.

Are they going to put the new 3.0liter w/ 240hp in the Escape/Mariner?

I would assume they would, no sense in having 2 versions of the same engine.

The article has been corrected and its even scarier. The Toyota Sequoia that was up 51.9% the highlander was down 36.

Looks like the "cars that people really want" still are bigger SUV's eh. Looks like the politicians and media lied to me......

Civic sales were up when gas way way up, and now gas has gone down sales are slowing on the civic, I am not surprised at all. If gas prices were lower I would be driving a Hummer H-1, why drive a small car when you can drive a hummer H-1! Or the new Ford Rapture.

Um, did you ever think that it was deep discounts that drove up the sales of the the SUVs?

I'm just trying to make a point, the uber-greens saw an opportunity to attack their arch nemesis (Detroit) at a point when Detroit can't really fight back and the media/congress/USconsumers jumped right on the bandwagon.... like we've done all too often.

Im trying to illustrate the point that CONSUMERS want SUVs.... hell if I made tons of money and gas stayed somewhere reasonable, I'd get an Escalade or G550.

Congress is perpetually behind the times. Since none of them actually drive themselves anywhere, they don't know the price of gas. All they remember is people were complaining about it in the summer at $4.25/gallon and that meant that they had to get up on the stand and pretend to want to curb speculation.

Deep SUV incentives/discounts have been in place for months. The deep discounts didn't work until the price of gas went below $2.50 a gallon at which point it was the low gas price which motivated buyers.

Lets think about this for a second. The sales of last years Sequoia were down because of gas prices. The article says they sold around 1900 last month. Wow an increase of 950 suvs!!!! This isn't a high volume suv that increased by 50%. This just shows that lower gas prices and manufacture incentives are moving the metal!!!

Actually my math was off it is an increase of around 625 sequoias

Face it, as a people, we are nothing more than $2 a gallon gasoline crack whores.

And I say that with sympathy and respect for those who are seriously addicted to drugs and will do anything to get them.
