 UPDATED: Audi Sales Ends The Free Ride By Skidding 25.4% In November
Audi today announced sales for the month of November totaling 6,788 units, a decrease of 25.4% from November 2007. Audi continues to outpace the industry with year-to-date sales down only 5.8%.

The Audi A5 posted a 155.2% increase over last November with 569 units sold.  Similarly, the Audi R8 had another strong month with over 150 units sold, an increase of 123.9% over November 2007. The Audi TT sales increased to 606 units sold this month growing by 74.6% compared to November 2007. For the year, the Audi TT outsold last year's figures by more than 11%.

"Despite the great challenges facing the auto industry, Audi continues to outperform other automakers on the strength of several new products," said Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president, Audi of America. "At Audi we will continue to be aggressive as we look forward to introducing new progressive vehicles in 2009, such as the Audi Q5 and the Audi Q7 TDI."

With industry-wide sales results expected slump as much as 36% in November, de Nysschen said Audi expects to see continued market share gains.

Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales declined 19.6% over November 2007 figures, with 2,357 units sold. But Audi CPO sales remained 22.5% higher through 11 months of 2008.

I have to say they are holding up well. The main reason may be the fact that I am seeing ads for them a lot more. The public has a greater awareness of them.

The competition on the other hand is now starting to cut back on advertising. So we have an excellent test case to see if Audi can keep gaining of market share at the expense of the others just by maintaining a higher profile.

Looks like everybody is down quite a bit. Audi did well with only dropping 21.5%. Infiniti was good too, only dropping 28%.

Audi revised the figures downward a bit. This is probably why the they were so late in releasing details.

when you just introduced a new model, and its sales are that much lower than the already very low sales of the last model, generallyspeaking thats bad......not to mention how many of theircars were in high double digit declines off set only by the fact that they have models that werent out that are selling accounting for huge gains, which off set the horrible performance of the rest of the lineup

I could be wrong but I believe the previous year sales numbers for the A4 were among the strongest months ever for the car. I think you're digging a little deep here, Audi is gaining market share.

Very true, and BMW just introduced the 1 Series and X6.

yeah you are wrong the chart shows a decline for the A4 of -32.3% thats huge especially being as that is a new model but one thing ive noticed is that Audi fans even given the facts wont see the truth.....the A4 is brand new, and its selling less than the old one which had poor sales already....and you are saying good job....they barely sold over 100 A8, which equates to an over 60%decline, and teh A6,Q7 and A3 are no better.
A4=-32.3%
A3=-27.6%
A6=-34.7%
A8=-68.1%
these numbers are horrid......the only reason that Audi didnt get hit worse was the rediculous increase of BRAND NEW MODELS
R8=123%, and over 150% for the A5 the above horrid numbers combined with these get you your %, lol skewed numbers perfect way to get the point across that you can sell cars....without those 2 they would fair much worse than the other luxury brands, and whats worse is that they sell less cars overall than 1 model of many other luxurycompanies.....horribleperformance, like everyone else, if not worse, and you allact like its time to celebrate

bmwdrvr, are you retarded?

I said I believe the B7 A4 sales from 2007 were what I believe a very strong month in the history of the vehicle. All sales are down everywhere, but for you to say new A4 sales are already lower than the previous years "already low" sales is just pathetic. Go post in some BMW forum.

You complain that Audi fanbois can't take criticism but every Audi post is just full of guys like you spewing crap from your mouth. I don't see the same in BMW posts.

Just a few things.

Last year, there were amazing lease deals on the A4.

Last year, the S4 was included in A4 sales.

Last year, the A4 Cabriolet was included with A4 sales.

This year, you can't really get a deal.

This year, there is no S4.

This year, the A5 sales are separate from those of the A4. Add them together and you'll get a clearer picture.

On top of all that there's the economy of course.

audi doesnt have as far to drop vs, BMW, Lexus & Mercedes who sell more the 3x the amount of product in the US. Audi actually did worse.

Hmm, not really, but if you believe it ok. I guess it helps you cope with BMW's global implosion. Audi will remain flat this year in the US which easily still bests everyone else. Month to month the sales have been steady and global sales will continue to increase. 11/07 they had a high sales month, so of course the % looks bad compared to 11/08.

The market in general is dropping by double digits so if Audi were doing as badly as its competitors, its relative sales should be dropping by similar percentages. However, Audi's Year-to-date sales have dropped by only 5.8%. For compariosn, BMW brand sales are down 12.3% for the year.
What does this all mean? Audi's market share is increasing.

The economy has hit Audi. I ordered a R8 at MSRP 2 years ago - the dealership informed this past April that my car would be sold to the highest bidder and I should expect to pay 40K over list if I want it.

The car is sitting on the showroom floor now and I got a timid call from the salesperson who said I could now have it for MSRP. Too late, driving a '09 Carrera S and loving it.

Could this be a sign of an automotive trend?

In this market, sales dropping only 25% is actually pretty decent. A similar company with the obvious exception of style and luxury, Subaru dropped only 8%. Both Audi's and Subaru's product lines are similar, as they are mostly AWD car based vehicles.

I cheer both companies on. Their vehicles are gaining appeal to a broad audience with the demise of the SUV.
