Porsche posts $28,247 average profit per car

Although this is an older article, it still is an interesting read in this time of doom and gloom for automakers.

So not only do you criticize Porsche owners of being badgewhore's you admit you are one yourself. You didn't have to write out a whole story of your life and how you need a car to get women. It doesn't matter what car you drive it's how you present yourself but being cheap won't get you any. You're making assumptions of how people are but you should worry about your own self confidence first. Don't be quick to judge because everyone has their own reasons why they own a certain car. My lady and I have been together for 7 years and I went from driving a Civic > G35 > down to a Maxima > LS, S, and R8 so she's been through the thick and thin of my career so that's proof she wasn't all about the car I drive.

Like I said before in other threads. Bargain shoppers won't be shopping for any prestigious brand. Bang for buck value doesn't make someone a car enthusiast. Car enthusiasts in my opinion are people who love all cars, get what they can afford, and make the best with what they have. The on going excuses of "Why get a ______ when you can get ______ for half the price?" doesn't justify anything. Even though I am fortunate enough to have what I have I don't dislike any cars that are much cheaper.

Just don't respond anymore. I haven't seen major deboosting like this in 6-12 months before you even came on the site. Don't end up like Michael "Troll" Taylor unless you are him :P.

When you build the same car (911) for the past 30 years, it's not surprising. Porsche doesn't want to give the boxster and cayman more horsepower, so they don't hurt the 911 sales, which the 911 is a cash cow. For old money the 911 might be alright, for others Porsche is pretty boring.

Then you don't appreciate what motoring is all about. Porsche's aren't your typical cars that change drastically every generation. It takes a benchmark and refines it throughout the years.

They have boosted more horsepower for the new revised Cayman as well as the Boxster. The Boxster has had a horrible image for itself and it deserves much more as it's a great car to drive and handles very well. The Cayman S is unbelievable, nice and solid to drive with more rigidity. The 911, well it can speak for itself.

I do like the GT-R but it doesn't mean I will go out and purchase one. I am perfectly happy with my 2008 R8 and is plenty fast for my liking. The price I paid for my R8 I could have easily picked up a 911 Turbo but thought that the R8 would be a nice choice. I have driven a GT-R down in Arizona and I enjoyed it but like I said I don't have to own one to respect it. I've seen a handful of GT-R's around town and at least 3/5 are driven by chumps who don't know how to drive. It's a shame because that car deserves much better. Then again the car doesn't require the know-how of driving a manual car to enjoy it. I've seen a few car enthusiasts at the local track where 911's, R8's, Lamborghini's, Ferrari's and 1 or 2 GT-R's show up and we all have a fun chat about seeing cars like 1989 Accord's being sooped up with bodykits and wheels along with large wings. If the GT-R owner is joking about Japanese wannabee tuners it must mean it's ok right? LOL.

I am tired of the argument that the 911 is so great. The car is plain ugly. Even Clarkson call it a squashed beetle. Agent 63, you even contradict yourself about appreciating what motoring is about. The reason why you bought a R8 over a 911 is because the R8 is sexy, the 911 is not. Beside the Cayman is a better balanced car than the 911. Come out with a Cayman turbo and the 911 is history.

I never said the 911's weren't nice. They are good cars. Finance status of their company speaks for itself.

LOL You're obviously bias because you may own a G37. It's a totally different price range for a Porsche and a G37 and as for the GT-R it's the price of a full spec & optioned out Cayman S (Here in Canada). The GT-R is a respectable performer but in terms of quality and prestige it's a Nissan. The GT-R may not be cooler because it's a personal choice of style but it's definitely a great car no doubt about it!

Hell, I'll take a Porsche 911, GT-R, and a G37 to be a daily driver lol.

I will never understand the appeal of the Tesla. A sports / performance car should make NOISE!

I would rather have a base Porsche Carrera than a GT-R. I wouldn't want a car that fast, for one thing. For another the 911 is drop dead gorgeous this year. The interior is far nicer, the engine sounds far better, it gets surprisingly good mileage, and it doesn't need advanced AWD to have perfect handling.

That is why I have never purchased a new Porsche!

this solves the question: why the hell doesn't my 120k Porsche outperform a 80K Nissan.
from a pure engineering point of view, the GTR has 80k dumped into engineering, while you would be lucky to have 30% of what you pay for a Porsche goes under its hood.

accept that Porsche also does not spend half of the money on electrical components and computer assistance to help drive, and with what little is left, use buttons and materials from a altima/maxima grade.

what i meant to imply was that you get a much better deal, i mean MUCH BETTER deal from a GTR than any Porsche if you see it from a engineering point of view.
Porsche makes 30k per vehicle while each GTR bring no money, if not debt, to Nissan. the 80k you pay for the GTR all goes under the hood, the 120k you pay for the Porsche, 30k goes to the company, 20k or so goes to the dealer, 40k or so goes to options. whatever is left goes under the hood.

can you imagine how much would Porsche charge you if they stick their badge on to a GTR? no less than 160k.

Stupid study. The huge profit that Porsche had that year came from VW stock gaining in value. It had nothing to do with how much their earn per car. Even Porsche said that this study was completely bogus.

Wait about 3 years for a Porsche 911 + GT series as the depreciation is immense with this car. The car loses I think about 1/4 of its value in that time.

It gets even stranger when you think of the 987...here you have a coupe (Cayman) which actually more expensive than the convertible (Boxster) version. They are expert marketers, most people, even car people don't realize it is literally the same car.

Especially now that they have identical engines. The Boxster is STILL cheaper.

Yes, although it's funny for next year they have detuned both Boxster versions by 10hp to "fix" this problem. It will be funny to see how it was accomplished, with a pinched intake snorkle or something.

more over Porsche put money into racing like no one does. any sports car racing they are there. if u like them buy it if not go buy VW or Toyota

one more thing, couple of months ago, before i pick up my 2009 GL450, i went a Porsche dealer to test drive a Caynne S, I find out that it doesn't have blue tooth, it starts only on 2009 models, i was shocked

I don't know if you ever have driven a Porsche for any extended time or ever will, but I can tell you what is special about the car. The car just works so well - the combination of handling, acceleration, steering, braking etc is just so seamless that it really makes you feel as you are the brain of a powerful machine that you control almost by thought. I've owned many Porsches over the years and they just keep making them better. My '09 C2S is a really remarkable Porsche. About being a badge whore - part of the reason I love my car so much is it is pretty darn anonymous where I live. Nobody gives it a second glance. Though I could afford a Ferrari or Lambo, I'd be too embarrassed to be seen in one.

Porsche makes so much on these cars because they can. They have earned a badge name. That is why you have cars that are cheaper and perform as well as their counterparts. But because of their heritage and prestige, they have sorta earned the right to charge their prices. Although you could go out and get an older 911 or Boxster for somewhere in the 20's.

I never was a fan of Porsche, not that I would turn one down, but there drivers remind me of the type of people who are my age and get high end BMWs. They spend all their time at the desk in the office or at the gym, or on weekends with Heineken in hand. Think My New Haircut guy.

But that is my perception.
