This is getting silly.

BMW needs to stick to simplicity. Why does a 535xi now have to be a 535i xDrive sedan? Talk about letting the marketing department run wild.

As a big BMW fan, I gotta say this is pretty ridiculous. When I went and checked out the new E90 335i at my dealership last month, I couldn't believe the "xDrive" badges on the AWD models. They're on both sides of the car, they're too big, they mess up the side view of the car and are right under the turn signal. I'm confused why BMW would think people who get this option would want to advertise it. Wasn't adding xi to the model number enough?

I noticed the same thing on the photos of the new Z4 yesterday. "sDrive"

First thing I'll remove when I get a new one.

Your 335i has been on order for weeks now it seems -- it's a little suspect. The dealership in my town has at least half a dozen 08's and 09's in their inventory.

$200k for a 335i is outrageous. Here in the States, $200k is SL65 AMG, 911 GT2, and used Ferrari/Aston Martin territory. It is unbelievable the people of Denmark have yet to rebel over such ridiculous taxes.

Even in the U.S. people can order an exact car. Because of color choices, packages, and options there are so many different variations you can get. Even with a decent inventory on the lot the dealership may not have exactly what the customer wants.

I can see it now, all the guys who are my age (late 20's) who now buy a BMW are gonna be like, "yeah I got the xdrive 35i" Like it's some kind of special package, lame!

Also, I love how the person who wrote the article tossed in "Sometimes an extra letter may be provided, but that would be it."

Are you kidding. The last letter or letters did have meaning. It was the difference between a coupe or sedan. 325i = 3 series sedan. 325xi = 3 series AWD sedan. Then they added AWD to the coupes, so now you can get a 328xi coupe. But instead of calling it the cxi, they now refer to them as the 328ci xdrive or something.

They have gotten out of hand with the nomenclature

Remember the good ol days of the e30 and e36 it was 325i (2 and 4 door) 325ix for all wheel drive, 325is for the sport package, 320d for the diesel, 325ic for convertible and M3 for fast. It needs to go back like that.

"M" is not an SUV.

like they even need the "i" now....which is for fuel injection. every car has had this for the past 20 or 25 years now. but I can live with that, and "x" for AWD, or "c" for coupe. If if were not for the (usually) superior way they drove, BMW would be a mess.

If the "i" weren't there it would look... wrong. Just the three numbers look naked on a BMW.

I dont know what the big deal is. They could name it a sentence for all i care, once they continue making some of the best cars on the raod it really dosent matter.

Disappointing. I hope BMW does away with this soon. They used to be about simplicity.

I saw a 335i coupe "xDrive" the other day. Those side badges are annoying.

a few letters are cool. a few numbers are cool. when you put a few letters together with a few numbers and then a word doesn't that look quite annoying? "550i xDrive"

Anyone remember the story with the M cars ?
I guess BMW registers now every other name, letters and numbers that come close to their actual ones.

BTW, let's see how many of you know what M cars are ?

No. I was referring to Nissan stealing the M designation for their cars when BMW was using M since 1978.
