Detroit Says Goodbye to the Swedes

ok, I'll be the first to mention rebadged Subarus. Subarus are great cars and there would be no problem to use their underpinings for Saabs except THEY LOOK THE SAME. GM, take a lesson from AVIS and "Try Harder"

I think the sweedes should take this company back these cars are the best out of sweden. I like them better than volvo's can. my first car was an 1989 saab 9000 and I loved it besides me buying it from an auction and replacing the tranny 2x I loved the roominess of that car. It drove excellent when I had it running.

Never was a fan of Saab except for the last 9-3 Viggen in electric blue, that was a fun car.

Nowadays they are ho-hum and do not offer much of anything. The 9-7x is based off it's GM cousins and offers nothing enticing either.

I say the Swedes buy it back, and clean up Saab to be more than a rebadged GM or Subaru.

And personally, I like Volvo's better.

I think it is interesting that people don't see the similarities between Subaru and Saab. Growing up my parents had several Saabs. A couple 900 turbos and a 9000 turbo. These vehicles were the real Saabs, prior to GM getting involved. I currently drive a Subaru turbo 4cyl w/manual trans, I feel get a similar driving experience as I did when I drove those real Saabs. No, there isn't the same level of luxury in the Subaru, but driving wise, they are very close.

Subaru packs their vehicles w/safety and convenience features as Saab does. Every Subaru receives the highest safety ratings.

I think it is the combination of sporty-ness and utility, packed into a very capable automobile.

The only Viggens worth buying are the 2003+ because of the oil sludging issue in the previous years. Plus the restrictor plate had a larger opening on the 03+.

I considered buying one, but buying a Viggen is like thinking you got a quality product after buying someones used Talon TSI, Eclipse GSX, or Acura Integra; the previous owners have probably ran the engine and tranny ragged.

I think one conglomerant should buy Volvo and Saab together. It should be set up like VW and Audi.That makes the most sense.Due to the financial issues the Swedish government will have to decide to either help out or let their car industry go down the tubes. It really would be a shame because both make distinctive vehicles and both have contributed to auto safety.

Then how would it be like a VW and Audi relationship? Both Saab and Volvo are on the same "prestige" level, or, close enough for one not to be the "mainstreamer" and the other the "upstreamer".
