The Details On The 2011 BMW 5 Series Leak Out

While BMW's next 5 Series won't appear until early next decade, technical details are leaking out. Codenamed F10, the 2011 5 Series will feature engines based on the new turbo range. There's a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six in the 540i, a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 in the 550i, and a twin-turbo clean diesel.

Even the M5 will switch from the ultra-high-revving V-10 to a turbo V-8, we hear. Hybrids will likely be available as both full dual-mode and mild types, depending on how they're received in the upcoming X6 and 7 Series hybrids.

The 5's wheelbase will grow a couple of inches, but the aim is to maintain current mass through the use of smaller, turbocharged engines and extensive aluminum in the body's exterior panels, such as closing panels, fenders, and roof.

Was invited to consumer clinic for 2010 BMW 5-series, similiar in style to new 7-series. Very nice. ChuckG37, enough already. All luxury brands appeal to buyers for different reasons. You are running to many comparison tests in your head.

The Infiniti M continues to drop in sales and seems to look more dated every time I see it. It started out as a great car but has aged very quickly. The E60 has endured and Bangle has prevailed.

I truly lament the passing of the days when alpha-numeric names given to BMW vehicles remotely made sense...

Example: A BMW 535 would actually be a BMW 5-Series powered by an engine displacing 3.5 liters.

As it currently stands, these names just seems like they're being pulled out of someone's A$$ in an effort to make these vehicles appear to have larger engines than they actually do.

Suggestion: If the vehicle is a 5-series featuring a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, it should be designated the 530tt, and be done with it.

Infiniti, Lexus and Mercedes sure appear to get it right, so why can't BMW?

Everything you said made sense with the exception of the Lexus part. Eg. RX400h, GS450h, and LS600h; all have lower displacement engines than their names would suggest.

Mercedes does the same thing - the 63 AMG is a 6.2, the 600 is a 5.5, the 65 AMG a 5.8, and in Europe the C280 is a 3.0, the 280 CDI and 320 CDI are 3.0, and the 200k a 1.8.

BMW can't do that because all their inline 6 engines are 3 litres. (Correct me if Im wrong) So how will thei differentiate between the 3.0 (231hp), 3.0 (218hp), 3.0 (258hp) ???

I'm sure after some research you'll find that you're totally wrong.

I dont mind you sayin this, but what I mind is +6 boost. I mean, who is boo-sting you?!? Maybe same ppl that have no clue what they talking about, jus guessing without evidence...jus like yourself. no offense.

nobody has even seen pics of this car (not counting the heavily camo'ed pics).

personally i can't get over the fugly headlamps of the XF, but the reas of the car, esp the rear exterior and interior looks very nice.

twin turbo diesel option will be probabl the best option for the most torque. But I am sure their will be BMW after market parts for the diesel torque monster that will probably get it up to 500hp and 750lb ft torque or somewhere in that neigborhood. I wouldnt be suprised in the next 5 years to see an M5 diesel!!!!!!!!
