Stud Or Dud? Mercedes Springs A Leak And 2010 E-Class Images Spill Out
It looks like some official pictures of Mercedes 2010 E-Class have leaked out ahead of schedule.

These are the clearest shots of what we should expect when Mercedes officially reveals the bread and butter sedan some time in 2009.

The current model has taken on  a crisper shape that shares lines with its big brother, the S-Class, and this design seems to offer more headroom especially  in the back.

As soon as we hear official details we will keep you up to date but for now the styling elements seem to be spot on with the CConceptFascination that debuted earlier in the year at Paris.

So does the new E-Class have what it takes to maintain the crown in the segment?

From these initial pics, I'm leaning towards stud. It doesn't look sporty, but rather the new E has a hulking presence. It looks serious. I think the rear lights are my least favorite design element.

That's the only part of it I DON'T like. It looks a little cheap and tacked-on. It only works when it's in the headlight cluster or when there's a full strip of them used as the DRLs a sportier car (S6, 911 Turbo).

you can only paste pics if you've uploaded them to your agentspace account

http://agent001.myautospies.com/

Then take the url from the agentspace photo and place the url between in the comment and it will appear like mine

If you don't have an agentspace yet go here to get one

The current E Class has really set a benchmark IMO. I don't think this design is really a good representation of the "E's" evolution. I'm afraid to see what an AMG version would look like.

I'd like to see a photoshop(decent one) of the anticipated AMG version, then maybe my mind will be at ease.

I know, I know, it's a benz, I'm not allowed to not like anything about it, I'm supposed to pin it to a wall and want to mate with it, and drop to my knees in lust. But f-k that, it's probably worst in class; even the RL has more appeal.

Big improvement on the previous design, but sorry it still looks terrible! Based on looks alone Id spend the extra few ££$$ and get a cls or save a few and have an A6. I'll probably get hammered for saying it, but front end is a little cadillac-ish. And the rear is Q45/90's LS430.

It will be a taxi in many countries, just like E class cars have always been.

My take is that it's an enlarged version of the prettiest new Benz in years, the C class. That car, in sport config, is really a great looking MB.

But the day MB manages to design a car without effing up the fender flares, that will be the day. "Franz, I've got it. Let's do a "no real flare at all" in front." "Ja?" "Ja, und den ve steal the flares off a Landcruiser for the rear!" "Ja vooool!"

Weak.

Not since the S class couldn't get the flares right have I been so embarrased for MBenz.

DUD!! it looks retro to me, the cabin and sides look overly tall, and it looks bloated and undertired. this is a step backward, and puts the upcoming BMW F10 firmly in the lead as far as my interest goes (and i'm a current M-Class owner).

So-so. Its nice overall, but those square shapes scream "1980's Pontiac" which was GM at its lowest.
Especially the rectangular exhausts. Those don't belong on a serious luxury car. They belong on a mid-70's Corvette that barely has enough power to get out of its own way!

macbjgmacbjg - 12/12/2008 4:00:51 PM

Initially I was going to comment that the car is "boring". The problem, however, is really that the design of the entire MB line of sedans skews to an older demo. That is, they look like something that your father -- whatever your age -- would drive. There is nothing bold or exciting about them. I don't care how fast they go or how much leather is in the cockpit. Don't misunderstand, I do not advocate that every car must be for everyone. Were MB looking to market its sedans as, perhaps, a niche brand more exclusive than its competitors that would be fine. But, as a car enthusiast considering an Audi, BMW and MB side-by-side, the MB, while classy looking, looks like it should be piloted by a guy who drove a Lincoln Continental or Cadillac when I was growing up.

Overall, not bad. Not quite as exciting as some of the AutoBild images from a year ago seemed to suggest, but nonetheless, could be a good looker with a more aggresive skirt kit and some decent rims. Will defer until I see the sport package and AMG. Rear wheelhouse looks a bit small, but could just be the angle of the photos...
