if they just filed it, I should have known better and took all of the designs and bought patent. Then sold it back to lexus.

The LF-A hopefuls are still out dreaming about an LF-A that has been in discussion for how many years now? They could have easily developed a mid-size coupe for starters and work their way up. Lexus has had a tendency to think too ahead of themselves. Creating an expensive Lexus like that won't do much for the brand overall when their entry & mid-range isn't covered in terms of sport coupes. They've had enough time to improve on the garbage SC430 SL wannabee and just make a coupe out of the GS platform. Why they haven't taken care of the general consumer is beyond me. Sounds like i'm ranting but i'm just annoyed at all these LF-A articles that lead to no where.

LF-A will come in 2 years, because Infiniti just announced that there will be a Infiniti version of GT-R sports car and sedan. so lexus again afried to bring their underpower super car with price tag of $225K+ can may will beaten by Infiniti GT-R which cost about 1/2 of it...

How can they build a super car when they haven't even figured out how to build a proper coupe yet?

Lexus needs to improve some of their current offerings before they create a super car. Does Lexus even have a decent 2 door coupe (or any at all)? And what about a convertible (the sc430 is garbage). If I were Lexus, I'd first address those shortcomings.

well they how to make damn good "BUG" much better version than VW, the "SC430"

Uhh, MKIV Supra? They know how to make a supercoupe.

When was that? 1992-1996? Its almost 2009 and they haven't done squat since. Seems as thought they forgot how to, or the folks who designed the "MKIV Supra" are long gone.

Everyone's comments on here makes sense but why does Lexus have to prove itself from the bottom up? It would also make sense producing this supercar and showing the world that whatever it decides to bring out after is worthy seeing that the LF-A is a success which it will be.

Its all about being confident with your products. Nissan just proved what they always were with their GTR ..........one of the best auto companies out there! Now with the next GTR sedan and Q50 no one will doubt that.

Amazonprince, how do you know the LF-A will be a success? Lexus makes nice cars, but it has never really set the benchmark for any segment it competes in. You could argue the RX did set the benchmark for car based SUV's, but it has been surpassed by the X5, MDX, and others. The IS-F was a decent first attempt at a high performance car, but it has consistently been ranked behind the M3.

Lexus should make their core products great first before going to compete with the big boys like Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini.

HSCenterconsole,

I don't think Lexus wants to put out a regular coupe or sports car before the LF-A and have to wait till those cars are superior to their competition. What if they never set the benchmark as you say? What if they are content in being number 2 or 3?

Once there are actual roadtests with side by side comparisons of the LF-A with other supercars then I think people will have even more respect for Lexus. $250,000 is up there with Bently, Lambo, etc. I think Lexus already studied the market and know there is room for one more.

"Once there are actual roadtests with side by side comparisons of the LF-A with other supercars then I think people will have even more respect for Lexus."

Building an expensive car doesn't earn respect. I would have more respect for Lexus if they developed performance orientated vehicles that most of their customers or potential customers could afford. For example, make the IS350 a true sport sedan by ditching the automatic and doing some suspension tuning. During my last car purchase (Nov. 2006), I didn't even consider a Lexus because they don't make cars that an enthusiast would be interested in. Just because they have the LF-A halo car still wouldn't make me consider them. They need to develop their real product line further (IS-F is a step in the right direction).

I still don't see the market for this supercar either. In the $200,000 range, you could have the following:
1) Porsche GT2: The 911 is a legend and the number of races it has won over the decades is unbeatable.
2) Ferrari 430: Mid-engined supercar from a company that is near dominant in F1 and has produced some of the best supercars of all time. This is where my (pretend) money would go.
3) Aston Martin DB9: A beautiful GT car. Aston does have racing heritage and how could you go wrong with a car that makes you feel like James Bond every time you drive it?
4) Lambo Gallardo: A true V10 exotic from the company that defines exotic cars (Countach, Diablo, etc.).
5) Merc SL/CL65 AMG: While they don't have the exotic styling of the others, these are perfect everyday drives for someone who wants extreme power.
I just don't see how Lexus can compete in this crowd based upon performance, styling, and heritage. For me, the LF-A

A glacial speed gestation, a collapsing world economy, and a quixotic price point, this car is already irrelevant

HSCenterconsole:

I get your point and agree with you.But Lexus is doing this for a reason and we may not understand yet but since they have the money I guess they can do what they want.

I'm a devoted Nissan/Infiniti fan first (always will be) and when I traded in my 350Z for the IS I wanted something as powerful as the 350z but without the trouble of a manual in traffic. Lexus has given me the whole package: power, looks, refinement, & reliablity. But I agree with you they do need a 6 series fighter, an IS coupe, an FX/Cayenne fighter, etc.

I'm more excited about the IS hard top convertible than the LF-A. More affordable, and will make it into the showroom.
