Recently Volvo has made available information and photos of the latest concept vehicle showing its next-generation S60 saloon scheduled for production in 2010. It is set to make its introduction to the world in January 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show and unveils the most current development of Volvo’s latest design scheme.

“The concept car’s exterior gives a clear indication of what customers can expect of the all-new S60. On the inside we’ve been even more daring - there the focus has been on creating a vision of the future in the slightly longer perspective,” said Steve Mattin, Volvo design director. The S60 highlights exact coupe-like dimensions, including tough shoulders, which when combined provides it an appearance that is quite identical to the design of the latest Jaguar C-XF concept car. However, there are a number of special features like the typical Volvo grill, handcrafted headlamps that comes with LED bulbs, floating doors, and an open design structure without B-pillars blocking access to the passenger compartment.

loving the looks already.... lets just hope that they dont alter the real model too much from this concept

It will definitely be altered because all the pillars are so thin. Airbags and roll cage frames probably won't fit. And there is no B pillar.

Not necessarily, if they make it from some tough steel. Curtain airbags, if you look at them, are in fact very thin, could also be hidden somewhere under the roof trim.

Obviously, the B-pillar will appear, suicide doors won't be used, such setup would have troubles passing side impact tests.

Most important thing is however that finally there's a great looking car which comes with proper rear view and dramatically limited blindspots. Still, Volvo could do without it with their blindspot warning system.

Not necessarily.

1. What matters is the wheelbase. Prius II is much shorter than current VW Passat and has tiny little bit more legroom in the rear simply because it has same wheelbase as the VW.

2. To accomodate three in the rear a suffient width + (1) is enough.

Cars don't have to grow and become heavier infinitely.

This is a big car for only four seats! Not something a family would buy, other than that the back end is ugly! Other than that it looks ok.

If Volvo can make this vehicle and get it to the market, they have a winner. The XC60 is a fresh face for Volvo and this new S60 will be a hit. The shape of the car is flawless. Forward thinking and design. AWESOME job for Volvo. They are a brand that is very underestimated and not popular, but in the next few years, I think they'll be at the top finally.
