Spy Shots: Are reports of BMW CS' demise exaggerated?
The low-slung four-seater was intended as a rival for the Maserati Quattroporte and upcoming Porsche Panamera. The company said it no longer expects to break last year's sales record of 1.5 million vehicles in 2008 and product initiatives will now focus on more efficient smaller cars.

The Concept CS, which takes its name from highly styled BMWs of the 1960s, is longer, wider and lower than BMW’s current flagship saloon, the 7-Series. It was first shown to the public at the Shanghai Auto Show in spring this year as Asia is likely to account for a big piece of any future growth in sales of high-end luxury cars.

i wonder why they just dont reduce the cars intended market. the issue with the new CS, is that it would require an all new platform because the 7 series platform cant be stretched much more to accomodate it size, whynot do a 6 series sedan, or a version of the CS based off the 5 series...instead of taking the CS into the ultra luxury realm as a car above the 7 series it would have been very expensive

You don't want an A8L...unless you live where there's winter 6 months out of the year. The V8 is too underpowered for spirited driving because of the car's weight. And the W12 is just allaround impractical; the acceleration is the only selling point on that one. Unless you're the type who just prefers to plod along in an overweight 4wd insurance policy.

I've personally taken a liking to the looks of the Lexus LS460. However, it gives off too much of a "gangsta" vibe IMO.

I'm sorry 8ter but have you drive one? I've driven not one, not two, not even three but FOUR A8 models--two short wheelbase and two long wheelbase. Two of them were with the 335hp engine and two with the current 350hp engine. The 335hp would have been adequate, and the 350hp is more than enough. I don't know what the hell you're talking about because any two-ton sedan that can accelerate from 0-60 in under six seconds is "spirited." You act like it's too slow to merge onto the highway.

"And the W12 is just allaround impractical; the acceleration is the only selling point on that one. "

Because the S600, 760Li and LS600hL are all incredibly practical right? And there are reasons to buy them aside from being faster than their lesser cousins (which the LS600hL is not)?

Why were you deboosted? If everyone was looking at the last pic (6 of 6) in that article, they would have clearly saw why you made that comment.

Doesnt look like a CS or 7 to me either...

I like many of the design features, especially the door handles slivered from the convex line. The back end, though, looks like a Camry.

honestly they should have made what is the current 6 series and called it a 4 series.

this cs concept should have been the 6 series... i think the 750li should be their top car unless they do an 850csi but the proper way.... something as good looking as the sl550...

that doesnt make sense the current 6 series is priced above the 5 series that its based on.......not to mention the 8 series was never an SL competitor it was more competition to the CL, or the than S class coupe. since it was more or a less a sleeker 2 door 4 seat 7 series

"look like the new 5 series, not the CS"

"back end, though, looks like a Camry"

what do you people see in these pictures?
all I see is a 7 series with a front mask

same tail lights
same roof line

it would make sense to be a mule

If they made it an actual CLS competitor (based off the 5 Series), it would make sense. I don't think anybody wants this car to be massive because it would totally eclipse the 7 Series--people who buy a 7 Series just want the biggest, fanciest, coolest thing. The CS would be the flagship of BMW's lineup and potential 7 buyers would just buy that instead.

looks better than the 7 series...but old people that use to buy 7 series, won´t change cause is to low for them (uncomfortable).
