China's Geely Exploring Instant US Presence With Purchase Of Volvo From Ford

Ford is looking towards one of China’s emerging car makers as a buyer for Volvo, as Ford desperately tries to streamline the firm’s global operations.

But while much of the speculation on a possible suitor for Volvo has focused on the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) and Changan Automobile (which already produces a long-wheelbase version of the S80 for the Chinese market), Autocar has learned that rival Geely Automobile has shown interest in a controlling stake in the Swedish brand.

Geely personnel initially visited Volvo’s headquarters in Gothenburg in early 2008, following moves by Ford to dissolve its Premier Automotive Group - which included Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin.

If this happens I hope China just owns it and does not make any decisions turning the car into a 3500lb piece of tin foil. Although this could improve the safety rating of every Chinese automaker if volvo becomes dominant.

Personally I don't like this movement, Ford needs to take quick action and protect Volvo or keep it, also Ford increase theirs safety properties with the help of Volvo. Be Carefull to sold Volvo to China , be carefull, Just take care. Don't cry in the future.
Now we see and we are worried about the Big 3 because they are american , I want and everybody of us want that they are in good shape, but is not so.
They can avoid this actual crisis but now is late, don't create another one. Be carefull. Where IS OUR AMERICAN PRIDE WHERE.... the only important things is money nowaredays. ???.......

This will tarnish the Volvo brand beyond repair. I thought the Swedish government was considering bailing Volvo and Saab?
