2009 Audi A6 3.0T Pricing Announced
We are pleased to announce today that the first Model Year 2009 Audi A6 vehicles will begin shipping to dealers. The new A6 made its North American debut on November 19th 2008 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and represents a major product offensive for Audi in the ultra-competitive luxury mid-size C-segment. World-wide, Audi is a segment volume leader with the A6, capturing 37% market share in 2007 ahead of its core competitors the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The new A6 brings significant improvements in three main areas: drivetrain, design and offer structure.
Drivetrain – Product Highlights
One of the most exciting changes to the A6 model lineup in MY 2009 is the new powerful, responsive and efficient 3.0 liter TFSI supercharged engine. This is a completely new engine and is the top performing Audi V6 engine currently available in the U.S. The 3.0 TFSI develops 300 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and a class-leading 310 ft-lbs of torque at 2,500 rpm, accelerating the A6 from 0-60 mph in only 5.9 seconds. The engine combines two state-of-the-art technologies – gasoline direct injection and compressor supercharging to maximize off-the-line acceleration and efficiency at higher engine speeds ideal for highway driving. The new A6 3.0T quattro with Tiptronic automatic transmission achieves best-in-class 18 mpg City / 26 mpg Highway / 21 mpg Combined fuel economy for all-wheel-drive competitors, which is also 1 mpg better in each category than its predecessor 3.2 quattro and core competitor BMW 535xi. Enhancing driving dynamics even further, 40:60 quattro torque proportioning on all A6 quattro models (previously S6 only) is now standard and vehicle suspension settings have been modified to improve ride comfort while retaining the A6’s sporty driving character.

I KNEW it. Never had a source for it though.

I'm really surprised they're hiking up the prices. $60K for a base 4.2???

And what is that picture? Why don't you put in an actual picture of the car?

For 09 the 4.2 comes fully loaded including S-line exterior elements, which for now are not available on the 3.0T. There are no significant options you can order on the A6 4.2. In the previous models by the time you get all the options it was 60 grand as well, so pricing stayed about the same

That's picture is one of the photoshopped versions of the A7. If only the A6 looked that good.

---
In real world it is not so good and the mileage varied significantly in the test.

German Auto Motor und Sport tested the A6 3.0 TFSI and it returned 12,9 l / 100 km = 18,2 MPG
Edmunds Insideline tested the BMW 535i and it returned 22,5 combined MPG, however, the car was rear wheel drive only.
But Carpaged did tge 535xi and it managed 10,7 l / 100 km = 22 MPG which makes sense when compared to what Edmunds got.

I suspects a reason for this is the Audi choice of engine forced induction. It's a supercharged which sucks the power of the engine and by this increases the consumption slightly. Meanwhile, the twin-turbo BMW uses kinetic and pressure energy from exhaust gases which would otherwise be lost anyway to boost the pressure in intake manifold.

Some bias might have been introduced by slightly different driving conditions in European and American cities but I don't think it would be enough to make readings differ that much.

Most often a turbo beats a supercharger in terms of efficiency. I think this car should be powered by Audi's new 5-cylinder 350HP biturbo to be used in the new TT-RS. This is the engine to have. And it will excel in mileage as well.

PS. The best thing in my opinion they did to the facelifted A6 is introducing the rear-biased 40:60 quattro instead of the old 50:50 setup. It really does help the new A4 quattro to handle so well so it will work here too.

pointless to compare different tests. Some magazines include track testing in their fuel economy, some don't. Some tests consist of cruising, some with spirited driving.

Basically it's pointless until both are tested against each other in one test.

But BMW doesn't sell 535 in any form in Germany. So we would have to wait until an American magazine tets the two.

But the European fuel economy test gives the 3.0T a very good ratings, so does the EPA. The EPA rates it better than the 535xi.

the supercharger that the Audi has small loses but allows it to run better gearing than what others do with a turbo

Turbos are an effective means of improving fuel milage without high costs of development. All European car makers are doing this. Why develop a normally aspirated V6 which will not achieve the same fuel savings or torque necessarily as a turbo based powerplant.

the 3.0T is a supercharged engine anyway
