Enough Is Enough? Cerberus May Give Up On Chrysler And It's 4 Billion Bailout Portion
Unlike General Motors, Chrysler has provided few specifics on how it plans to overhaul its operations after receiving federal loans.

After President Bush announced loans for both companies on Friday, Chrysler’s parent, the private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management, said in a statement that it hoped to “facilitate the restructuring and the recapitalization of Chrysler.”

But in the same statement, Cerberus raised questions about whether it would remain an investor if Chrysler survives.

Mercedes should come to an agreement with cerberus....

Chrysler announces Ch7 at 7:00am, and Mercedes buys up the assets at 7:01am. Mercedes isn't saddle with Chrysler's debt, but gets Chrysler back for pennies on the dollar.

Screw Cerberus..... they have so much money they could make chrysler a damn good company... instead, they decided to go the "capital management" route and screw a good industrial/technological powerhouse over.

Hell.... Im not fond of too much foreign ownership.. but I'd be all for Renault/Nissan taking over Chrsyler from Cerberus.... (provided that Cerberus looses their hats on the sale!)

Nissan could always buy Chrysler Corporation, but sell off Dodge and use its extensive dealership network as the basis for a new luxury division. Since Infiniti is the greatest luxury brand Japan has to offer, this proposed line would be positioned above it.

The flagship sedan would be a VQ-powered stretched Altima and would feature the most sybaritic amenities like cloth seating and, dare I say it, a AM radio.

My tattoo artist/stripper girlfriend, Diablo, could use her artistic talent to create a logo and design theme for this luxury endeavor.

I would love to see MB take it back. Chrysler needs to go up against Cadillac with a new 300, a gorgeous convertible, and a hot BMW 3 series contender. Jeep becomes the truck / SUV division. Move the RAM to Jeep brand. Dodge go the way of everyday small economical cars, minivan, crossovers, and a camry fighter.

In this financial climate what company would actually be interested in buying Chrysler? Until the credit markets loosen up Cerberus is stuck with Chrysler. The only remote possibility(and I say remote) is Tata Motors. Buying Chrysler would give them instant access to higher volume sales in the US and western markets. Yes they do have this with JLR but that is limited volume and high end. No things will be up to the Obama administration putting a great deal of pressure on banks to start lending again to J Q Public. Until that happens the entire auto industry is in total limbo!

HAHA, great point.. I was thinking the same thing. A company run not by some outside ownership, but by the people who ARE the company.

It'd be great to see.

Chrysler does have some positives. Their large sedans from Chrysler and Dodge are competative. The interior quality still needs work, however. Certainly Jeep is still a strong name plate and gives this company some value. Some of their trucks are competative as well. But Chrysler needs to focus on giving it's larger vehicles good performance while greatly increasing fuel economy. Their new Phoenix engine program which appears to be fully developed is also a positive. Ok that's where it ends. All other remaing vehicles in Chrysler's fleet need complete overhauls in terms styling, driving dynamics. That means Avenger,Sebring,Caliber and any coexisting vehicles off these platforms are horendous.Ultimately what Chrysler needs is someone to take over and evaluate the pluses and minuses of the company. Unfortunately the credit crisis has put a crimp in all auto manufactorers on the planet. Therefore a merge with or takeover at this point is a very difficult proposition. Cerberus of course was not betting on this terrible credit crises when it took over Chrysler. A UAW takeover would be interesting but in Chrysler's case there is more to it then just cutting wages and legacy costs. There is a real lack of mid line and lower end high volume type of competative product at the moment. This somehow has to change and I'm not convinced that the UAW can do it.
