EPA releases certified 2010 Ford Fusion fuel-economy figures, beats Camry hybrid
EPA has released official fuel-economy ratings for the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. According to the EPA, the 2010 Fusion Hybrid gets a certified 41/36 mpg (city/highway), making it America’s most fuel efficient mid-size car topping the Toyota Camry hybrid by 8 mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway. The Fusion Hybrid even beats the Honda Civic Hybrid by 1 mpg in the city and is able to travel more than 700 miles on a single tank of gas.

Ford engineers spent the past three years working on the next-generation hybrid system which allows the Fusion and Mercury Milan hybrids to travel up to...

Love the "short lived" heading and quite impressed with the new style Ford has to offer. I strongly believe Ford will be the only company that will remain as the only survivor among the Big 3...as for beating the Camry hybrid...that is a topic that will last for another 4-6 months, as I am sure the 2010 Camry Hybrid will be far more fuel efficient than what the 2010 Ford Fusion has to offer...

Its like a musket (Ford,GM,Chrysler) vs an automatic rifle (Toyota, Honda). You can go though a 25 round clip and reload again be for the musket guy can shoot 1 and thats if he didnt screw up in the process.

I thought it was kind of "Funny" how they compare a 2010 Ford and compare it with the current Camry hybrid.

Why don't they just wait for the 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrid to come out and than compare it than. The 2010 Toyota Camry hybrid will probably get way better fuel economy this Ford for sure.

GO FORD!
It just goes to show that the American Car Co. can be competitive and make cars that are as good as any foreign car company. The problem is selling it to the people. Ford should travel around the USA providing free rides of this car so that the word gets out quicker.

Actually no it does not. They left out very important information. What year where they comparing it to? I bet the first generation is no where near as efficient as the latest generation from toyota and honda. The Fusion is about as American ans the US flag. Made all over the world but is labeled as american.

And enough with this "My Honda is American b/c it was built in Ohio" or "That Fusion isn't American b/c it was built in Mexico".

Seriously.... If Honda/Toyota/Hyundai are American b/c they build some cars in America... That means that every major car company on this earth belongs to about 20 countries... For example GM:

GM:
USA, Canada, Mexico, China, Germany, France, England, Italy, Russia, Brazil, India......

So does that make GM vehicles Russian or Brazilian....NO. Its an AMERICAN company... the same applies for Toyota, Honda, etc.

Stop with you ignorance.

neutral do you know why some of their cars are made in the US? So that they do not have to pay import taxes and the shipping to get to the US so its more cost effective and it seems to be working.

It looks like the haters are using every excuse they can think of for why this is not a great automobile. If you hate America so much, you don't have to live here.

Great car and finally giving Toyota competition with their own technology!

No it doesn't!

wow really impressive. blows away the malibu hybrid. someone can actually compete with Toyota. Great to see.

Yea but the Maliby Hybrid isnt the same hybrid in a sort of manner..

Maliby Hybrid is a Belt-Altnernator-Starter hybrid.... it just replaced the alternator with a bigger motor/alternator/starter. The current version is a 42volt system, whereas the BAS+ is something like 110volt system.

Malibu electric power cannot drive the vehicle by itself, etc. Its just a mild boost in economy, but doesn't cost too much.

I agree.... GM SERIOUSLY needs to get its 2-mode in a Malibu. Hell.... Ford is doing it.

Yeah well Ford and Toyota worked together and it is a smart thing especially for Ford because they learned from the best in hybrid technology and therefore came up with their own. Remember Toyota licensed Ford's diesel and direct injection technology in exchange for the hybrid tech. It was a fair deal and that is why Ford is one of the best performing out of the Big 3! Alan Mullaly knows what he is doing.

People just don't want to be seen driving a Ford, yet Camry has Soccer-Mom written all over it.

Looks like Ford is back to doing its own thing. Like days of yore, lots of ingenuity. The Fusion hybrid could be the beginning of the end to compact cars. What a remarkable auto....

For the last time, hopefully, Ford did NOT use Toyota hybrid tech. When they developed the hybrid tech, they found that a lot of techs have been patented by Toyota. Therefore, they did a cross-licensing with Toyota with their Diesel and DI tech for the PATENTS of Toyota.
The main advantage of Fusion over Camry hybrid is the battery, which is 20% more efficient than the one found in Camry/Prius.

As I have been saying all along, for hybrids, the key is in the battery. Others are all matured technologies. Everyone (including Chinese automaker) can do it. Whoever owns the next-gen battery tech will win the game eventually. The game has just begun, Toyota is lagging behind in battery development. I own a Prius, so I am not biased against Toyota.

All of this posturing by the Toyota lovers. Comments like, this is not fair it's a 2010 model, wait until the new camry ect, ect. Why is it when an American company makes a great car the Toyo guys cry?
Get a life. America is getting back to making what people want. I had one toyota and it was soulless. It was like driving a vacuum cleaner. I hated it.
Now I hate Toyota as they present them selfs as an american company. Disgusting.
I just purchased a new Lincoln MKS. It's a great car. Technology, looks, fun to drive. I had trouble with the SYNC system (my phone) and the dealer was very good about helping. They even offered to purchase me another phone to compensate me for my trouble.
Go america

I agree with you too the toyota lovers are annoying me. Why cant they just accept the fact that the fusion gets better MPG than the camry, the big 3 are in a bad situation right now we should be glad that ford is coming out with higher quality cars rather than still producing the unreliable cheap cars. And last time I checked the camry wasnt getting an update for 2010.
