Stud Or Dud? 2010 Mercedes E-Class Coupe Gets Caught In The Nude

Caught by reader "Nikolaus", these are the best shots yet of the new 2010 Mercedes E Class Coupe with nearly all its camouflage removed.

A rear diffuser and what seems to be a taped up AMG logo on the boot hood suggest this prototype could be the E63 AMG Coupe.

But Mercedes' models from the AMG division all feature a quad exhaust layout whereas this prototype has the rectanglular twin exhausts mimicking the style seen on the recent leaked official photos of the regular E Class Sedan.

Definite STUD I guess the CLK is gone after this drops or BMW will have to match them and make a 5 series coupe ???????????....but enough dreaming for me I like it its going to bring a different feel to the market. I guess the BIG 3 IN GERMANY will be going at it with this

I don't think BMW has to match anything with this class since they have the perfect 3 series coupe style and size. Then they have the 6 Series. Not to mention this looks ugly in the back and boring everywhere else.

I agree. It looks more upmarket than the current car. I think it looks great.

I always thought the CLK was based on the E class anyway, confusing!!

I do like the styling that MB is doing of late. The only one I dont like is the C class and thats only due to the fact that the overall styling looks blunted or abbreviated. Unlike the S class which the C has similar styling too.

009, if this E-Class Coupe was truly "NUDE" it wouldn't have the coverings on the headlights and taillights, now would it?

The article should be named "...Caught in its Skivvies."

Front and sides stud and the back end dud. It looks too much like a Lexus.

To me, all they need to do is get the taillights off the trunk...other then that, it looks great...

I like your idea because I to think the tail lights are to big and sort of classless, at least for a MB. I do like the diffuser styled bottom of the rear bumper as well as the intigrated exhaust ports. The rest of the car seems just a little sedate.

They took styling cues from Honda on this one. I smell big time sales failure here.

how could you smell sales failure? The e-class = mercedes benz, you really think they're going to mess it up? The thing looks great.

nice fenders from the BMW cs concept, lol, and i can hear now if BMW decides to make an 8 series with those same fenders people will say they copied the CLK...otherwise not bad, if not a little bland and looking bit like a Honda Accord coupe

You now I have to say it...its STUD-ly...Im not too sure about the C pillar or the rear lights but what I see so far I like. I hope they don't ruin the interior like the current car. The first gen CLKs' interior was nicer too me. I think that if they straighten the interior out they'll have another winner on their hands.

Love the car, but tail lights look too similar to those from the lexus IS. Maybe it's not a bad thing tho...

Looks like just another car :-( The current E-class is amongst the most beautiful cars ever made.

Definite stud. The lines are better than the current car, which IMO is a little too feminine looking to me. All I ever see driving the CLK are ladies. Everyone here keeps saying the rear lights are weird, but I think they are ok. The only thing that bothers me is that strange piece of C-Pillar glass, why not just one whole rear quarter window? Otherwise I like the over all look so far.

at first I didn't know what you were talking about "that strange piece of C-Pillar glass"... then I looked closer. Maybe it's just a temporary piece of tape or plastic or something because there's no way that would fly!

this new "E-Class" coupe or sedan just doesn't scream Mercedes. I've always been a fan of Mercedes but not this one.

Front and sides look good...those tail lights I'm going to have to wait to see in person or see better shots. In regards to the "taped up AMG logo". Its definitely not a taped up AMG under there. It looks more like its E350 or something along those lines. There are absolutely no AMG telltale signs on this particular car.

So, is a larger CLK an ELK?
Shape is nice.
Hate the lights (front and rear) stretched into the sides ... looks totally riced up.
Since when does Germany need to copy bad Japanese styling trends?
