DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Hyundai's Design Chief Out- Trouble In Lexus Cloneland?
This can't have a good back story if you ask us.

US design chief at Hyundai Joel Piaskowski, who started there in 2003, is a goner.

He did the Genesis Coupe design which in our opinion was the best thing ever to come out of Hyundai.

Any guesses why he left the building?

Neither Hyundai or Joel the Coupe man made a statement regarding the departure.

Is there trouble brewing in Lexus clone paradise?

That stripper girlfriend of mine is pursuing a career in automotive design. After she graduates, she is going into a coach-building business with Kim Kardashian, Ami James and Brody Jenner. Yes, the vehicles will be powered by exotic VQ engines.

The Genesis coupe may be the best looking design to come from Hyundai, but because of some of its weird elements (the strange window crimp, for example) it still falls short of 'correct'. The fact is, I am not an automotive designer, and yet even I know that it's not 100% correct. So gosh I would have fired him too.

There isn't enough in the way of facts to say one way or another. Was he fired or did he move on to someplace else? What's the source of the info?

I guess it means something that nobody's talking but let's not start reading the white space.

I should add also that Hyundai has yet to show it's own distinct stylistic personality. Even the Genesis cars are fusions of various other car makers designs. If these vehicles are the work of Piaskowski then Hyundai could actually do better with a more original design approach.

001,

Seriously now, does your disdain for Hyundai and its efforts know no limits.

This (so-called) news, its unnecessarily snide headline, and your general 'piss poor' attitude towards any company with aspirations of entering into an automotive market currently occupied by your precious BMW, has really become quite tired.

You Don't Like Hyundai - We Get It Already!

Now go find some real news to post please.

I hope new designer bring new and original ideas for them and hyundai quit copying or atleast minimize it.
I think now only design is their weak point, in rest of the things they are very near to their respective competitors.

BTW i drove Hyundai Genesis V6 for a few days and i was not very impressd. It's a good car but you feel the car is just what u payed, not more. The interior layout is not very good. The centre main dash looks like they tried to be like S class. It also sometimes from a distance looks like Lexus RX. But when u use it while driving it feels neither S nor RX. The bottom Stereo part is very 7 seriesissh even the feel of the buttons. But the i drive like knob is very cheap looking and also feel is not satisfactry. It felt very loose and after 4 days of use i felt it's tilting towards a side.

Drive is ok not very sporty but smooth. Exterior wise though i like the overall thing, but it's not atall original. The front grille shamlessly look like MB and also other parts mimic MB. Most of my freinds said it looks like S class and few also said it looks like Toyota aurion from rear end and also Altima.

So overall i think it's good car for money but not great. It's not like 'u won't get such amount of luxury and features at this price in any other car' as claimed by Hyundai. Lexus ES full option with panoramic roof, Infinti G37...etc are very close and those cars look better too. So i give Genesis V6 a 3 stars rating. Maybe V8 is half star more but that is it. Genesis V6 is a fine car. Put it in Avalon, Maxima, Passat category and it looks very good. In 3 series, A4 category it would struggle.

Agent001, I always thought of the new Hyundai's as more of an Inifiniti clone...just look at the Genesis Coupe, seems more like a prev gen G35 to me than a Lexus! : )
