Want The Dream Job In The Auto Industry? Think Again
On the same night that the Senate was killing legislation to bail out U.S. automakers last week, seniors in vehicle design at Pasadena's Art Center College of Design were putting on what should have been the show of their young lives.

Standing in suits beside sleek, carefully constructed models of futuristic-looking cars and video screens with 3-D renderings, they smiled and handed out resumes, hoping to catch the eye of a car company recruiter.

Almost none were to be found

Inner City Kids with a poor education no longer have a chance. Years ago they could become an apprentice and a Steel Plant or Manufacturing Plant, become a Machinist and have a shot at the American Dream.

Now, they only have Gangs, and boarded up Houses and Crumbled Factories to look forward to.

Reason why our cities have become war zones. Again last night a 16 year old girl was shot in the face by roving gangs.

This is why Mass Transit will not work in America. the crime rate has predistined us to drive alone. Maybe insted of electric cars, we will soon need 5-Ton bullet-proof cars.

Yes, For real. Every night people are gunned down in the city, and the trend continues to worsen. Probably because there are no jobs in these neighborhoods. It is symptomatic of a much deeper problem. A Few months ago it was 2 children playing in the driveway sprayed by bullets, caught in the crossfire in a drive-by shooting, a Cabby shot in the head and robbed.

If you are driveing a nice new car, you've have to get out of Dodge before sundown, Or you become a target for sure.

I don't care to watch the local news anymore, I switch the channel to PBS Nightly Business Report insted.

The auto industry is feudal. You are either born into it, screw your way into it, or marry into it.
That tends to take the edge off the "dream" in "dream job." Forget meritocracy, these kids even if they are good won't get their shot at the American dream. Most of our kids, in general, won't. America has changed. Not for the better.

i would love to help out GM, Ford or Chrysler get back on track with designs. Function, quality and affordability. Of course, the most difficult part would be getting people in the showroom.
GM did an amazing job going from the grand am to the G6. it was a complete 180! it is so much nicer than the camry, it s amazing. But, does anyone know?

When there are no jobs, humans resort to our instincts. Hunting and Gathering. Hunting(Shooting & Murder) Gathering(Stealing)

Our entire Legal system makes a ton of money off of Human Insticts.
