Who Is The Better Driver: Men or Women?
Famed composer Irving Berlin captured the battle between the sexes quite succinctly in his legendary song "I Can Do Anything Better Than You" from the 1946 Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun." Gunslingers Annie Oakley and Frank Butler lyrically debated who could shoot more accurately: she or he?

But what they were really fighting about was which sex is the more capable: man or woman? That same argument has been waged many times, about many topics over the years. But no gender-related discussion has been more heated than the one that rages behind the wheel. So who are better drivers: men or women?

No matter what this puff MSNBC piece says, the answer is clearly WOMEN. During every commute I feel like I'm facing a deathwish trying to avoid women piloting huge SUV's while talking on the phone and/or putting on their make up while left hand lane sitting or blowing through red lights.

I was stating WOMEN are the WORST drivers in my above comment.

I generally feel that FOB (fresh off the boat) immigrants from non-western countries to be the worst. At least in the west there is a bit more sense of order on the roads, just a bit though.

Men are generally much better drivers, but they are more aggressive and...it ends up about the same from an insurance perspective.

But if I had to be a passenger in a blizzard, PLEASE let the driver be a male. Women typically just don't "get" the physics of driving and don't want to.

Men are better.

An emotional woman behind a wheel is a deadly weapon. I'd rather be riding with a drunk. My wife got all worked up over nothing 2 mornings ago, and gunned our clk from 0-80, in one breath, while in a residential area. Needless to say, she lost her right to drive as soon as the car stopped. I don't think I'll ever let her drive me anywhere ever again.

You haven't seen my wife drive. To her a speed limit sign is merely a suggestion

You dudes must not be married - women are better at everything. Let's just let it be, there's no winning this argument.

Men are better drivers for the simple fact that we (most of us) don't just get behind the wheel and move the vehicle from "point a to point b". Most of us actually take the time to learn how to drive at track events. i have yet to see a single female participate at any event that i've attended. let's not get it twisted though, on the roads in America (where i was born and lived all of my life), it seems like most Americans can't drive, no matter the gender.

"Most of us actually take the time to learn how to drive at track events."

Really? Maybe the people on this website... but most men have never been to a track and don't plan on driving their car at the track. I get your point though.

Men are the better drivers.
Women want to wear their make-up, speak on the phone, drink their coffee and drive.
Driving around women is like playing dodge ball.

Men are clearly the better drivers. If you have ever been to Florida you can understand where I am going with this. Ditches are a womans parking spot. Yea there are more crashes by men but there about 2 to 3 times more men on the road than women.

I think that women are more sensible/law abiding drivers than men, but at the end of the day, the men get to their destination quicker and normally as safe too.

Capability and behavior are two different things. If you put an average man and an average women on a closed track, the guy probably performs better - if by better you mean faster with fewer "accidents."

Not sure if it's hormones or genetic wiring but men "generally" are more aggressive and more apt to push the limits on the car and have a better physical sense of the road and the ability of the machine.

But the question is who is a "better" driver. Insurance guys will tell you the numbers prove women are less likely to have an accident and the accidents they have cost less to fix.

When I drive to work, I too get pissed off at the women putting on makeup, talking on the phone, TEXTING and who knows what else... but the when I get cut off or or see someone driving like an asshole, it's almost always a guy.

Well women in general make less deadly accidents, but that doesn't make them better drivers! A woman's typical accident is while backing up in a parking lot, but us men... We just make a car crash worth its full meaning :P.

Many studies have been made... all stating that the ratio of women involved in a dangerous crash is less than men... Well DUHH! We enjoy our driving! They drive because they have to! (There are exceptions ofcourse, but we can't judge the whole gender by someone like Sabine Schmitz.)

Obviously a perfect study without flaw. No doubt every possible cofounding factor was taken into account before the conclusion was reached. Yes, this study is ironclad and the definitive word. Give me a freakin' break...this is opinion and has zero scientific merit. If you want to be taken seriously autospies then you need to promote good research and do some actual investigative work. I don't ever expect that from you though, so continue with your mediocrity and pat yourself on the back for a half-assed job well-done.

the study is completely flawed. it took me a while to figure it out.
is it based on 'violations'.
women are much better at avoiding them.
cry, undo a button or two, etc...

Men are better drivers by far. Here's the best argument to prove this fact: Anybody remember the 2000 Indy 500? Out of 33 drivers, two of them were women, Lyn St. James and Sarah Fisher. They hit each other and both were out of the race. Your Honor, the defense rests. :)

I would say that men are better drivers because in general, more men are car enthusiasts than women and if you appreciate cars, you realize that they are a work of art, not just a play thing. Women in general don't care about cars and therefore don't really take proper care of them.
