Nissan's Prices The 2009 370Z At Just Under $30,000!
Nissan North America Inc gets an early start on the new year with the announcement of pricing of the all-new 2009 Nissan 370Z Coupe and a revised marketing tagline. The new Z(R) goes on sale today at Nissan dealers nationwide with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)* starting at $29,930 for the 2009 Nissan 370Z Coupe equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and $31,230 with the new 7-speed automatic transmission. The new Z(R) is also offered in a 370Z Coupe Touring model, which is priced at $34,460 with the 6-speed manual and $35,760 with the 7-speed automatic transmission.

Two option packages are offered: the Sport Package, priced at just $3,000, with 19-inch RAYS forged wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tires, aerodynamic front and rear spoiler, larger Nissan Sport Brakes, SynchroRev Match (6-speed manual transmission only) and Viscous Limited Slip Differential; and the Navigation Package, priced at $1,850, with Hard Drive-based Nissan Navigation System, 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive and Interface System for iPod(R).

As the most powerful Z(R) ever produced, the new 370Z hits dead center in the sports car "sweet spot" of performance, design and value -- with less weight, more power and enhanced handling, quality and style. With a standard 332-horsepower 3.7-liter V6, choice of two advanced transmissions and a full array of driver-oriented interior features, the new 370Z is designed to be one of the top performance values in the world.

Also today Nissan announced the rollout of a revised marketing tagline: SHIFT_the way you move. Previously, SHIFT_ was used with multiple complement words, which varied by product or media application. The move to one set phrase "the way you move" reflects alignment of the direction Nissan is taking to meet changing consumer needs and wants.

"SHIFT_ has always been the core of Nissan's DNA. It is rethinking the ordinary, changing your point of view, and being original, forward thinking and challenging," said Christian Meunier, vice president, Nissan Marketing, NNA. "Our commitment to the philosophy of SHIFT_ has become even more critical as we look to the future and the pressures of economic and environmental change that are affecting consumer behavior in how they interact with and impact the world."

All Nissan national marketing materials will include the new SHIFT_the way you move tagline beginning in January.

About the 2009 Nissan 370Z

The all-new 2009 Nissan 370Z, the first full redesign of the iconic Nissan Z(R) since its reintroduction as a 2003 model, solidifies the strengths of its predecessor with an unmatched balance of performance, style and value. Nearly every piece and component of the 370Z has been rethought or redesigned (compared to the previous 350Z) -- a shorter wheelbase, greater use of lightweight body materials, larger engine with 26 more horsepower, a new 7-speed automatic transmission, an available world's first synchronized downshift rev matching 6-speed manual transmission, a new high quality interior design and new available technology features.

The 370Z's new aerodynamic body is more compact and offers a more aggressive stance. Attention to details such as the new "boomerang" headlights and taillights increases its dynamic presence, elevating the overall styling to much higher quality and emotional levels. The dramatic new interior utilizes a driver-centric three-layer design which groups items by how a driver sees information, operates the controls and is held in place -- so drivers feel completely connected and engaged whenever and wherever they drive.

Performance has been enhanced with a more rigid body structure, better power-to-weight ratio and a new 332-horsepower 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL). Crisp handling is provided by a refined 4-wheel independent suspension, while steering and braking systems, including available Nissan Sport Brakes, have also been upgraded. Available technology features include Nissan Navigation System with XM NavTraffic(R) with Real-Time Traffic Information (XM(R) subscription required, sold separately) and 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive and a Bluetooth(R) Hands-free Phone System.

The new Z(R) is offered in two models: 370Z and 370Z Touring. In addition to the 370Z's long list of standard equipment, the 370Z Touring adds heated leather-appointed power seats, HomeLink(R) Universal Transceiver, Bluetooth(R) Hands-free Phone System, 8-speaker Bose(R) audio system, XM(R) Satellite Radio (XM(R) subscription, sold separately) cargo cover and aluminum pedals to the long list of standard Z(R) features and equipment. Also available is a premium paint color, Chicane Yellow.

now I can buy the POS G37 and save like $10K. Datsun=Infinity.

While neither are POS, the VQ is old school and needs a revamp to keep it current. It gained HP over the years mainly by displacement increases and the gas efficiency lags behinds the competition.

G37 is a nice ride, but it still kind of subtly says "Hey, I couldn't afford the $10k+ more expensive Bimmer, so I bought this Infiniti instead."

009: Though ChuckG37 is mental, I cannot agree w/ you that VQ is old school. I don't like the increasing displacement either, but no other NA V6 has been able to achieve output of 90hp/L, rivaling that of bimmers, if not better, while keeping acceptable MPG.

BMW has to resort to turbo to beat it, but then the throttle response at low RPM and MPG is not as good, in addition to complexity of maintenance. That said, V6 has its own disadvantage, which I won't go thru it again.

That said, I still prefer I-6, and think that HP war is a waste. Z4 is pretty nice other than steering, but now BMW kills it w/ added weight and has to throw in turbo to save it.

The only thing to hope for now is a NA 3.0 Z2.

dlin- The data I see shows the following:

The Nissan/Infiniti VQ since 2001 typically averages about 88 hp/liter, which isn't a bad but not exceptional.

As you can see from below the VQ primarily gets power from displacement increases, though on the G35 they did boost the redline a bit to get a tweak. These are the best horsepower figure for the engines sold in the US (there are other de-tuned versions but the point of this thread was performance)

Year Designation Disp Pwr BHP/L
2000-2001 VQ30DE 3 225 75.00
2001-2004 VQ35DE 3.5 303 86.57
2005-2007 VQ35HR 3.5 311 88.86
2008-2009 VQ37VHR 3.7 332 89.73

On the other hand BMW for instance started out with similar power levels however by 2006 they had smaller increases but larger HP gains with the M3 peaking over 104 HP per liter.

Year Designation Disp Pwr BHP/L
2000 M54B30 3.0 228 76.00
2001-2006 S54B32 3.2 333 104.06

You can do this with other performance brands and see they may gain Displacement but HP increases percentage wise are similar to BMW. Basically the competition is getting more for less displacement.

C'mon, 009, I thought you know better.

Let's make it short: If NISSAN is allowed to tune the VQ engine w/ M3's 14/20 MPG, believe me, it'll probably already output 120 hp/L.

Good job Nissan!

You were able to keep prices the same but raise the level of quality within your interiors as well as exteriors! That is another stab at BMW......loving it!

As a die hard German car fan I must admit that I am interested in the new Zed. Nissan has some dogs in their line up but it seems to be improving with the intro of the GT-R and the new Zed.

Kudos to Nissan for offering one of the best values (if not the best value) in sports cars today.

Do 335i shoppers cross shop between that and a 370Z?

I would be willing to bet they may.

I believe the cross shop the G37 not the 370Z, back seat, different demographic. Z4 would be the natural competitor.

Yeah, can't really see the 370Z being cross shopped with the 335. The G37 is crossed shopped with the 335 and more than likely the 370Z will be cross shopped with the Z4.

We all know the bang for the bucks are goin to be with nissans. The only way Bmw will compete in the pricing war is give you less options and less equipment.

Or GM, Ford and Chrysler stop overpricing their under equipped cars.
