America v Germany: 2008 BMW 335i vs.2008 Chevrolet Corvette
If you like to drive like your hair’s on fire, deciding between the athletic American 2008 Chevrolet Corvette hardtop coupe and the Bavarian corner carver 2008 BMW 335i is a bit like choosing between cocaine and cocaine. If you’re a more sensible motorist, it’s like choosing between A.H. Hirsch 16 Year Old Reserve Pot Stilled Sour Mash Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Schloss Rüdesheim VSOP brandy. in either case, the question is a matter of taste and price. Hence this test: which performance car offers the better buzz for $40k?

I'm not a hater, but this is one dumb comparison.

They are 2 completely different cars.

For the thrills? Corvette.

But I would choose the 335i as the car to live with day in and day out.

exactly.

I agree that this is a bad comparo but I'd take the BMW any day of the week. It's a stock Corvette...not a Z06, not a ZR1, a STOCK Corvette. ZZZZZZZ

given the performance of the stock vette it still isnt anything to sneer at 430hp and a 0-60 time of about 4.3 seconds, not to mention decent fuel economy there isnt really anything boring about it especially as a performance car it really is hard to beat for bang for the buck

Veeracer,
The ZR1 and Z06 ARE stock Corvettes. The base model is just that a base model, something to build from. All the cars are stock.

They left out the Ford F truck, the Smart fourtwo convertible and a bicycle? Perhaps a guys wearing flippers?

Poor choice of words on my part. The BASE model, while posting good numbers, is nothing really special compared to the other Corvette offerings Chevy has available. Regardless, everyone seems to be in agreement that these two cars should not be compared against each other. Who would honestly say, "Ya know, I've been looking for a new sports car and I've got it narrowed down to either a 3-series BMW or a base model Corvette". No one.

The base model corvette can outpace the M3, IS-F, C63 amg, and pretty much anything under 80k (Z06s excluded, of course)

The M3 is almost a full second slower in the 1/4. It may have the edge in handling, but not by much. And the vette is 20k cheaper.

I dunno, if I was looking for a sports car, my choice would be obvious.

and it should for double the price.

very odd comparison test, it would seem the Z4m, would be amuch better choice tocompare a 2 seat performance car,and a 4 seat performance luxury coupe.....really doesnt make sense, as i wouldnt think anyone looking at either of these cars could justify cross shopping them. They have 2 totally different missions, and other than being about the same price the similarities end there.

or more intersted in performance the vette is still much faster than the 335i is, and is much more a bargain alternative to way more expensive cars, as those are the cars the vette is compared to not the 3 series. I love the 335i as much as the next person but it really is a bit out of its league, when deciding which is the better performance car with performance being the main point, when it comes to a comparison with the vette

The Vette is a better value and much faster. Easy choice, unless youre 50+.

The dolt that wrote this must be best friends with the BMW "Nut" SAC at Car and Driver that wrote the GT-R vs. 911 Turbo vs. M3 comparo, where the M3 won because it was more "liveable".

The BMW M3 WON a comparison against the GT-R and 911 TURBO?!?!?! That is incredible! You say Car and Driver did the comparison? I have to check that out! Those are two very serious cars and for the BMW M3 to BEAT them is an AMAZING accomplishment. WOW I am stunned. The M3 beat down both the GT-R and a 911 Turbo. I just like the sound of that. That M3 seriously dominates!! It's fast. It's fun. And, you can enjoy it everyday!! It rides better than the Lexus IS-F, too!! Thanks for the tip Bmw8her!

Say it one more time Bmw8her: "The BMW M3 WON a comparison against the GT-R and 911 TURBO" niiiiiice.

Dumb comparison. The 335i isnt nearly as fast. 2 cars for 2 different objectives.

ChuckG37, Most of your responses are aimed against the Toy/Lex image. Here is the reason: 1) You're like an alcoholic in denial. 2) Toyota is the import "Top Selling Brand" in the world. 3) Lexus makes the most beatiful cars...bland,boring and all...so they say. 4) Of all the imports,Lexus is in the big league with Merc and BMW. 5) In the 50-150k league the ballers and rollers are only interested in Merc,Lexus,BMW,Audi,Jaguar,Land Rover and the likes. You will not find Acura or Infiniti in this league because they are considered alternates. They are not the in the major league,so stop pretending because of your denial. Nissan is fourth rate at best and the rest of the world knows this, except ChuckyG37 of course.

I can tell you from having done lots of cocaine, there is a difference between cocaine and cocaine. Now having said that, you are more likely to get your dick sucked with an 8 ball, than you are if you drive either one of these cars. Give me an 8 ball and a bus pass, wouldn't want either of these two cars.

the only reason I'ld chose the vette is the engine-
but it's a UAW engine so that makes it less appealing.

You have no idea what your talking about. Loud? The interior is surprizingly quiet for this car, unless you floor it. If you buy the vette, your not going to complain about the exhaust.

Being it weighs 3100 lbs and has 400 ft/lbs of torque, the car gets 28mpg on the freeway. Im going to take a wild guess, and say the M3 doesnt even come close to that. The trunk space is very generous since there arent any backseats.

Id say the vette would be a better daily driver then the M3 unless your hauling around 4 people regularly

First, compare apples with apples. Sport sedan vs sport sedan. BMW 335i vs Cadillac CTS. THAT'S a matchup. There will be a CTS coupe available shortly, making it an even better match for the 3-series. And just for the record(not that anybody is asking) I'd buy a Corvette (or a Caddy for that matter) over a BMW any day.

Hey Kthor (or ObesePig whatever you're going by these days) If your colon is still killing you turn around and see if you have a BMW service writer sticking out of your ass... If you do this is the first indication your full maint program has expired.

I could not take this comparo seriously and took it as more of a WTF comparison. BMW interior + ; Corvette performance +.

Corvette in my opinion is as great Sports car daily driver like a Porsche is. Good MPG too!!!

You have got to be kidding me! Why not compare a sporty family car to a true sports car? Wait, they just did that. :D

Hmmm...

Corvette - 130 HP + 1 row of seats + 400 lbs = BMW 335i

BMW 335i - 34 HP + 1 row of seats + 700 lbs = Honda Odyssey

It seems like the 335i vs. Odyssey would be an equally compelling a comparison.

I own both. The BMW is faster than you think! The BMW refinement
is really awesome. The vette body is awesome. But the 335i with
x drive is the logical choice. It really is fast as it gets all
of its torque at 1,500 RPM. 0-60 is 4.7. The vette is 4.3.
Once you drive the loaded BMW...54K (less than the vette) you will want the BMW. Heated steering wheel, awesome stereo, awesome seats, better ride, great handling, a trunk, incredible build quality, free maintenance, the I-drive is a computer - awesome, all BMW controls are incredible and the tranmission is WAYYYYYYYYYY better, and all-wheel drive is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better in all conditions. The vette is great but REALLY LACKS REFINEMENT, TECHNOLOGY, BRAINS, AND HEART!
The BMW is a JET.............FULL PACKAGE
The Vette is a train.........POWER AND LOOKS
