Smokefreak, your favorite brand's got it going on, this is a damn fine looking automobile. Depending on fit/finish and final price point, this is a respectable contender. Is something like this your style?

Actually the Equus is above the Genesis and Grandeur (Azera) in Korea. It is Hyundai's flagship. Equus>Genesis>Grandeur (Azera)>Sonata>Avante (Elantra)>Verna (Accent)>Click (Getz)

I agree replace the Azera, those things are a painful reminder of the way they "were"

This car looks like it will be positioned above the Genesis.

Azera vs. Lexus ES, Toyota Avalon, Buick Lucerne

Genesis vs. Lexus GS, BMW 5, Mercedes E

Equus vs. Lexus LS, BMW 7, Mercedes S

The next logical step for the company would be a hybrid/diesel/alternative energy ONLY model and a serious entry level sport sedan to go head-to-head with the BMW 3 series, Mercedes C classe and Lexus IS sedans.

I could see a German engineered/inspired Sonata with more style, performance, and passionate design (a la Volkswagen CC) in their lineup in the near future.

"Equus vs. Lexus LS, BMW 7, Mercedes S"

?

Is there anyone here who would buy that Hyundai over those other cars? No? Thought so

Not in the beginning. But give time and proper ads hyundai can be taken seriously. Lexus wasnt taken seriously and in tha most prestige area in the world like that scene in casino royale there will never be a lexus in places like that

I thought I read somewhere the the Genesis is already taking sales away from LS / S Class. Hmmm?

Why does the brand symbol looks like a Honda?
The H doesn't seem to be italic

I noticed that as well which made me think:

"Why DIDN'T Honda bring out something like this?"

That design would've made a great looking Acura RL as long as it didn't get the "beak" grille.

EL34 is bitter because it may potentially be a good car, even though is has Asian roots.

looks nice overall. The Dodge Charger like crease line in the rear fender is getting very popular, BMW CS concept also had similar crease line. LS like exhausts and big rims are nice too.

The rear (tail lights) are similar to the Nissan Maxima's

Having seen pics of the old/existing Equus and now seeing the sketches of this new gen Equus, I am confident it will do well in the US.

I don't think Hyundai is openly trying to undercut their intended competition on price points, but the new Equus should make the competition nervous. Hyundai will again gain some market share through this vehicle as they have done with the Genesis.

This is one of the most confusing posts ever.

XG became Azera, which is why it's the Genesis, which is unrelated?

The V8 from Mitsubishi wasn't crude, it was advanced all-aluminium, quad-cam, 32V engine with gasoline direct injection pioneered by Mitsubishi, in fact anything that was technologically advanced in Hyundai's came from Mitsubishi, previous Hyundai Equus(Hyundai largest and most luxurious sedan) was designed by Mitsubishi and it was rebadged Mitsubishi Proudia, Hyundai also manufactured partially Proudia in Korea for Japanese market due to economic reasons.

Isn't it going to be called the VI?

onetimeonetime - 1/5/2009 3:48:48 AM

VI is the project name for the Equus (other project names include, BH: Genesis Sedan, BK: Genesis Coupe, VG: upcoming Kia luxury sedan, NF: current Sonata, YF: upcoming Sonata). According to some Korean media, Hyundai is likely to continue the name "Equus" to the new Hyundai's flagship in the Korean market, but I'm not sure about for other markets.

First I want to congratulate Hyundai for continuing with the improvement of their cars and making better looking cars every generation.

Secondly, to Hyundai is on the same league with Lexus is a April Joke. Hyundai need to come out with a Luxury name plate that what Toyota did and came up with Lexus.

Third, Lexus has been around for almost 20 years now and has prove it to the competition that they can hang with the.

Fourth, no has beat Lexus in the realiability and luxury department as of yet. When the Lexus LS first came out they compare to a $1+ millions jet.

Fifth, of course the Hyundai has to sales it cars cheaper than Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, MB, and Audi. In order to steal sales or customers away from the above mention brands.

Lexus started out the same way, selling cars that is just as good in the performance or better than their competition at a lower price. And raising their rates with each Generation as the gain enough customers.

Once Hyundai gain enough demand or sales enough cars I think they will raise their rats as well.

But Good Job Hyundai!

lol wtf are u talkin about no one has beat lexus in luxury department. ur an idiot buddy. its only in the states wheres so hugely popular....cadillac, buick, and SOME mercedes/bmw/audi/jaguar owners have switched but many of those are asians!!!. the white man in pebble beach, they were all cadillac drivers before they went to lexus. and some lexus drivers are toyota owners too. its a lot cheaper than mercedes... for the price of one s600 you can get two ls460's... they may have sales in china and russia but outside of the states lexus isn't #1. toyota dumped millions into ads in states for 20 years thats how its become what it is. you dont see that many mercedes or audi ads as you do lexus. lexus lacks curb appeal, sex appeal, prestige, and no just because their sponsoring golf dont mean their prestige lols. lex is cool but just cause they sell more dont mean their the better car. price is a factor. if someone owns and s class but realy wants a bentley but they cant afford one, obviously they'll settle for the s... same deal with lexus.. if they cant afford the extra for a s class flagship then they can settle for the LS. its the price u pay that all americans are about. bang for buck value...i hate that... if u got money money is no object. at $100,000 and up it shouldn't be...

Say whatever you want about a Hyundai but Hyundai's taking strides in the auto industry. The next Sonata and this Equus will be handsome looking cars. Hyundai's stepping out of their realm and taking charge!.

Never say never because Hyundai is for real and there here!.

Deboost me but before you do, remember what Hyundai was prior to the Genesis, nothing. Look at their cars post-Genesis.

Great looking car that if brought to the US will undoubtedly slot above the Genesis. The front is a little bit too S class for me though....
