2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Brochure Makes Its Way Onto The Web
Just when you thought you couldn't see any more of the new 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class prior to its upcoming debut at the Geneva Motor Show, a healthy portion of the model's brochure has made its way onto the Web, revealing completely both the model's exterior and interior styling as well as key technical specifications. This, of course, comes after a prior series of leaked official photos, meaning Mercedes' viral marketing team has either been working overtime or the new E-Class is one of the worst kept secrets in automotive history.

Either way, the European market now knows exactly what to expect from the model, starting with the fact that there will be by our count a total of ten engine variants (not including an AMG model). There's three CGI BlueEFFICIENCY variants – the E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY, the E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and the E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY – and there's four CDI BlueEFFICIENCY variants – the E 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, the E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, the E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and the E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. Rounding out the lot, an E350 BlueTEC, a traditional E 350 4MATIC, and the stalwart E 500 will all be available as well.....

It better look better in person. I think the whole design has reverted back to the 70's and 80's which has caused it look dated or outdated already.

It is pretty cool that you can get a stick in the Euro version. Unfortunately, perhaps .001% of E-Classes sold here would be with a stick.

A stick Mercedes kills resale value as well. My mother had an '01 SLK320 6MT when I was in college. It was tough to sell since everybody wanted an automatic in that cruiser.

Front end looks too much like the Lexus GS and the rear is very ugly and bland. Honestly i expect this level of designs from luxury hyundais and Kias, avalon, altima...etc not MB.
Current aged E class look better than this. Design wise it's a big dissapointment to me.

Not real crazy about it. The interior is very clean and expensive looking. I particularly like the matte-finish wood trim.

I agree. It's too busy looking, yet bland in a certain way. Not subtle, simple and elegant like W123s and W124s, but bland and even a little cheap...at least from the photos.

As for the who copied whom argument, who cares - I can't keep track any more. But IMO, this is another disappointing new Benz, at least from a design standpoint.

I just find those optional ripples in the leather on the interior panels of the doors a little too symmetrical.

Besides that, I'm liking most of the car...was getting a little tired of that dashboard of the outgoing model.

I disagree with you Jugnu and I usually don't. Lexus and the koreans copied Mercedes styling language. That's the only reason they are similar. Merc has consistently had great designs ever since I was a child. The only one that to me never really appealed to me no matter how hard I try is the C Class. They always look fine from the front and then they look too short in the side profile as though they tried to squeeze an S Class into a space too small. I like the 3 a lot better even after the current model "uglification" and the last IS is pretty good as well.

I think this is one of those cars that look only good in real life. I'll have to wait and see. But till then, I think they could have done better. The front is okay... rear is terrible... side profile is okay but has too many lines... and the interior doesn't look good but I'm sure it won't feel cheap. I'll save my final judgement when I see it in real life.

It looks really good, the one thing that annoys me is that if you look at one of the photos you can figure out that they have two trim levels that have different looks, like the new C-class but more subtle. The two trims are called ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE apparently. Here's what bothers me, the fog lights on the elegance trim level look like tailpipes coming out of the front! maybe it's just the picture but either way I don't like it, especially when compared to the LED lights on the Avantgarde car.

You know Chuck it's funny, you're the first guy to bag on Lexus for being ugly and uninspiring. You either have to be blind or a moron to not notice the similarities to the GS. Based on your comments above, I'll assume you're not blind. I'm not giong to rewrite history over who invented the car, but it's pretty clear who perfected it, and no it ain't Infiniti.

What are you getting at motor1? Do you think Lexus stole their design from MB or BMW? Personally I didn't realize BM invented the four round headlight front end, news to me. The current GS is a natural evolution of the last GS, and the last GS looks nothing like the benz. But I guess in order for you to share your brilliance I have to bite, so I guess Lexus stole it from....

You can't be serious when you say "the last GS looks nothing like the Benz." The second-gen GS looks, more or less, like a Japanese copy of the E-Class from two generations ago (W210). Which it was. Lexus hadn't used the four headlamp design until Mercedes brought it back in 1995.

Very nice, but I can pick out tons of little details I hate.

-The wheels on the AMG pack version are awful. Five-spokes only please.
-The double-fog on the beige one is strange to say the least. Maybe it'll only be sold here with the LEDs.
-The interior looks cheap. Nicer than the C and GLK, but obviously the same designer, and that's not a good thing.

What happened to the S/CL interior designer???

Can we honestly stop the "the interior is cheap" comments. These are poor quality scans with highly grainy pictures. Nobody can tell how good the interior is from looking at them. One needs to see the car up close and in real life. From what I can tell right now the interior looks to be just fine. I have a lot of experience with Mercedes' cars. And by the way, the C-Class and GLK interiors are far from cheap. A little bland and uninspired maybe, but not cheap. There's a big difference between cheap and spartan-looking etc.

Global design?

America: 2000 Cadillac DeVille - grille
2008 Cadillac CTS - front end design elements
Japan: 2007 Lexus GS - headlights
1997 Infiniti Q45 - tail lamps
2008 Honda Accord - side profile & body crease
Germany: Any year Mercedes-Benz - hood ornament
1990's Mercedes - instrument cluster
2002 BMW 7 series - elements of dash layout

And some of you have the nerve to bash the Hyundai Genesis over this seemingly "photoshopped" Mercedes-Benz.

I think all car designers are honestly running out of ideas, although this car isn't a disaster like some of the cars coming from Honda and Acura as of late.

Merc has sold it's design "soul" to Seoul-esque design moves. Still looks like a Korean luxury vehicle to me. The rear wheel wells are very out of place. But what do I know, it seems like every other person on Autospies loves Hyundai's. In the end Merc. will probably make a ton of cash off boomers that still have cash with bad taste.

So many cars got four oval headlights, Bentley GT, Bentley Arnage, Jaguar S type...etc so does that mean all copied E class.

Lexus didn't copy MB as it always had four square headlamps and not round ones. Previous generation GS even had four taillamps.

and new Mercedes designs(last three models: CLC, GLK and E class), maybe to u are classics or retro or whatever but to me they look very weak and bland. Too many confusing and unnecessary lines. I like the current unBOXY theme S, CL, E...etc but unfortunatley new MB models indicate they are ending this round and simple design theme and going boxy and complicated.
