First Drive: BMW 335d

Much like our drive of the X5 xDrive35d, the 335d had me walking away very impressed.

When most people today hear diesel think efficiency and cost savings. BMW went another route with the launch of the first 3 series diesel in the US; performance. They want to establish diesels not only as efficient misers but as cars that like to be driven, cars that fulfill the needs of those that love to drive rather than be driven. Whether they succeed or not truly depends on getting people into the cars and drive them, create a buzz as it were about these “new” breed of diesels, these Advanced Diesels.

Without looking at the rear badge there is no indication this car has a diesel under the hood and that is how BMW chose to badge this car; no other badges or stickers proclaiming efficiency or diesel for that matter. Just a lower case “d”. The most noticeable difference when looking at the car are the wheels offered with the Sport Package (ZSP). These gorgeous 18? wheels are only available in the US on this car. The other difference is of course the round circular cutout for the AdBlue/Diesel Emission Fluid filler located on the driver’s side of the back bumper. Much like the 335i there are dual exhausts, indicating that this thing likes to go fast. You would be hard pressed to find a non-enthusiast that would be able to identify this car as a diesel.

Why the hell would BMW need to put such a system when you can get nearly 40mpg destroying the economy of the mini limo Lexus. That would go against the whole performance thing BMW was aiming for with economy.

The article said the 335d gets 23/26 mpg, not 40. The GS Hybrid gets 22/25. Impressive for the much-larger "mini limo Lexus."

FYI, The 335d gets 36 highway. The X5 diesel gets 26 highway.

Totally Lexus Beauty Queen! I know! Total eco-friendlyness like Batteries that get shipped all over the Earth before they make it into the car, and then are non-disposable! Lexus has it soooooo totally right! Pshshshshhht! BMW is sooooo totally stupid! I mean, who really cares if they won Green Car of the Year?!?! That Award means nothing! Everyone knows that if your car doesn't have an 'H' on it, you are an Environmental Glutton! LexusBeautyQueen, it is sooo totally non-bodatious that more car companies aren't like the Japs. I mean, to think that BMW, those silly Germans, build these efficient cars that are totally green! Shame on them! My friend Candy, her totally fabulous dad is totally this awesome booty-kicker that said that the Germans cut the fins off of Sharks and Dolphins and throw them back in to the ocean!!!!! Ugh!!!

HelloKittyLexus,

It actually is the Japanese that cut the fins off of Sharks and Dolphins, etc, and throw them back into the water. Sorry.

You're right, killing dolphins and sharks is a whole lot worse than killing Jews. Thumbs up Kitty and Capt America.

It took Jeremy Clarkson and the crew at Top Gear to show BMW just what a diesel performance car could do. The queston is, who's gonna buy it? Most of the douche tool punks that buy 3 series cars are not going to go "clubbin" with their hands smelling like diesel fuel. I guess that leaves the old pipe smokers.

kthor, thanks for the grammer lesson, however there is more than one definition. When I referred to you as a "man" in that post, I applied THIS particular definition of (sic) "It means you are quoting something written that you realize is not proper grammar etc., but you are choosing to not correct it. It comes from the latin word thus."..... So you see kthor, when I refered to you as a "man", I did so knowing it wasn't proper grammer, because my friend, you are the furthest thing from a man. And isn't it funny you of all people lecture others on name calling. God Bless.

Well kthor, considering stuck and the boys did that 11 years ago and BMW only recently decided to launch the car, I chose recent history over ancient history. How's that for civil?

And kthor, I left you a reply on the caddy thread in case you missed it here you go.........................................................
Gee, maybe it was the quote you lifted from one of my posts and put on your profile? Yeah, I think that was it. kthor, you are a smug little prick of a man (sic). You created a profile using this poor dumb stupid bastards photo thinking you had me, but you are wrong. You got the wrong guy on the wrong coast, you're off by a few thousand miles. It's nice to know I got to you though, it's nice to know that I got to you so bad you would go to this extent. Hahahahahahha aaaaaaah. Now do the guy a favor and take it down. Here, so you that you take a shot at the right guy I'll throw you a bone... I live and work in one of the 10 western states, near an alpine lake, with some of the best skiing on earth. And here's another bone, the last name is french, not english. Happy hunting!

Attention kthor, Just in case you missed what was written to you a couple of posts ago... For instance take "agent" kthor, that spineless, pathetic, little weasel of a man (sic) has posted the photograph of an individual (he thinks is me) on a profile he created and named Obesepig (check the IP addresses, I'm sure they'll match). Now, I'm certain the man actually photographed in this profile would fail to find any humor in this, nor appreciate the many posts discussing his physical appearance, and the size, shape, and condition of his colon. None the less, I have no way of getting this message to "agent" kthor without it being a matter of public record. In my defense, I have asked "agent" kthor to at the very least, kindly remove the mans photograph from the profile, (see post in DETROIT AUTO SHOW: 2010 Cadillac SRX Re-styled) but unfortunately I had to do so in a public post. So a U2U feature would actually be very helpful. Now, the man photographed in the "obesepig" profile is Scott Roberts, Mr Roberts is the general sales manager at Lexus of Melbourne in central Florida. Since he and I ARE NOT one and the same, (which I have tried to communicate to "agent" kthor) I highly recommend someone, perhaps you, remove the profile and posts before Mr Roberts discovers what "agent" kthor has done to defame his character. One can only imagine the financial and legal hardship Mr. Roberts could unleash upon the owners and directors of this site for allowing such defamation to continue. May I also suggest agent 001, that you impose a permanent posting ban on "agent" kthor, and any and all logon profiles associated with his IP address (I believe he has no less than three). I would then follow this posting ban with a blast email to all agents reminding them that malicious impersonation of actual citizens is not within the spirit of autospies.com, and may actually violate terms & conditions, and maybe even a few pesky laws. If you wish to discuss this matter further, I believe you have my email address.

Oh, my, shopping-spree-worth-of goodness kthor!!! This guy must totally have it out for you! You should totally say like, "What gives Jabroni?!?!" Like, my daughter would be sooooooooo mad if someone totally talked down to her like that! I'm super cereal kthor, don't people know that the facts don't matter?!?! Kthorn should totally know that It's not what you SAY that's important, or whether or not your are right or wrong, it's what you think about YOURSELF that counts! DUH!!! What a dum-dum. You just keep on keepin'on kthor, I totally have your back, and as far as I go, I'm super rich and never been beat in court so it's all good! We'll show that Kthorn a thingy or deuce about what it's like to be totally spectacular, no matter what other people think!!! Still the king, Denny Crane

Hey denny or whoever you are just stay out of it, what this dirt bag kthor has done is neither funny nor entertaining. And to answer your earlier question kthor, why am I concerned about a complete stranger? Because the guy does not have a dog in this fight, think about what you have done for a minute. In a monumental fit of smugness and stupidity you lift the photo of a guy you don't know off of his employers website. Having no way to confirm it's me or not, (and rather than yielding to this fact and erring on the side of good judgment) you create a profile called obesepig, and proceed to slander the guy. Imagine if you can this guy having a son so into cars that he's actually a member of this site. Imagine if you can, the kid coming across a photo of his father with the profile name of obesespig, and then reading your obscene posts. Imagine if you can, obesity running in this guys family, with his son having his own personal battle with it. Can you truly be so proud of yourself that you find anything funny in what you have done?
I can't believe your fragile ego took such a huge shot that you would stoop to such a childish act. You truly embody the definition of cowardice. At the very least you ignorant smug prick, take the guys photo off the profile.

OP for the record, I didn't impersonate anyone or their back story. Up until this I had no idea there was a guy out there with a similar name and history. As I said in an earlier post you didn't get the spelling right, and you were looking on the wrong coast. Don't ignore the fact that you were the one that took it to this level. And as far as whining goes (and here's YOUR grammar lesson... it's whining, not whinning) why don't you "sack up" and take responsibility for your actions instead of pointing fingers.

kthor, once again (to coin YOUR phrase) you douche tool, you lifted my quote and placed it on your profile. Did you think I was too stupid to remember my own writing? From there I figured you were so butt hurt over the schooling you received that you probably googled the name. Much to my surprise, what do you know, I made it to the same website you did. Do you think you are brilliant or something? I'm glad to see you found a more apropriate photo for your profile, did you snap that one in the mirror today? And Thank you for taking the other one down, I'm not afraid of a good fight, but to watch you do the online equivalent of sucker-punching someone else is not as much fun.

kthor, after much thought you're right, you weren't schooled... what was I thinking? You were owned! This can be the only reason you would dedicate so much time and effort in retaliation. kthor got his little butt hurt playing with the big boys, boo hoo... I highly recommend you take some of your own advice about posting etiquette and start with the boy in the mirror. And my desperation? Please... my verbal jousting falls way short of your desperate, willful, pathetic acts of revenge. And "Super-Size It"? Where'd you get that one, High School Musical 2 or 3? Grow up little boy.
