The bump in Toyota sales is from the Tacoma not the Tundra. While the Dodge Dakota has

The Tundra fell from 196k in 07 to 137k in 08 (30%). The Ram fell from 358k to 245k (31%).

The Tacoma fell from 173k in 07 to to 144k in 08 (16)%. The Dakota fell from 50k to 26k (48%).

Toyota now has 36% midsize market share while Dodge is down to 6%.
Dodge holds 15% of the fullsize market share while Toyota holds 8%.

So while Toyota gained overall it didn't come close to selling as many of the higher profit fullsize trucks (which Dodge relies on).

And lets be honest who would buy a Dakota over the Tacoma really?

Enevitable is the term to best decribe Toyotas fate in the automotive world. I believe as long as Aikio Toyoda is on the board, and soon to become the president of his great grandfathers empire,Toyota will stay at the top. There are some things that I have researched about this companys philosophy and secrets that will blow the Toy/Lex haters mind. However, I will not libraly share this information until the appropiate time. In the mean time the Toy/Lex fan boys as you call us, will enevitably come out on top............guaranteed. IT'S THE TOYOTA WAY!
