Detroit '09 Preview: Jaguar XFR arrives early
Thanks to an embargo break by 4WheelsNews, we can show you the first official image of the 2010 Jaguar XFR and reveal some juicy info on the British brand's new top cat. Set to go head-to-head with the big dogs in the high-performance luxury sedan segment, the XFR draws its motive force from a new version of Jaguar's AJV8 that's larger at 5.0 liters of displacement and supercharged to produce 510 bhp and 460 lb-ft of torque. That's good for a 0-60 mph run of just 4.7 seconds and a electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The XFR is also fitted with new 20-inch Nevis alloy wheels and larger brakes with calipers bearing the "R" logo.

The XFR also features a number of exterior tweaks that emphasize its sporting intentions, including a new front end with a new bumper design incorporating large, chrome trimmed air inlets on either side, hood vents, new fenders, side sills, a decklid spoiler, and new rear bumper that wraps around four exhaust pipes.

WOW, very good looking car probably the best looking out right now other than the quattroporte, I'm going to assume though it will be faster to 60 than 4.7 seconds, I've seen the XF tested as low as 4.9

Awesome stats, but I do agree that is should be faster to 60. Bmwdrvr, I'm a huge Quattroporte fan too.

Looks like they added a wrap around turn signal to a set of Jetta headlights. Other than that not a bad looking set of wheels.

The standard Jag XF is the best car in its market segment - it handily beats the BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class, Audi A6, & Lexus GS. The XFR will definitely give the M5, E-class AMG, and S6 a run for their money.

Still reminds me of a early 2000s Chrysler Sebring.

Some very impressive technology under that sexy body aswell.

What is important to buyers in this segment is overall performance. Luckily, Jaguar didn't just drop in a new engine and call it quits. The paddle-shift ZF six-speed automatic transmission is beefed up internally to handle the extra grunt. Larger brakes and a quicker steering rack are used as well. More interestingly, the chassis receives some electronic tweaks. First, an active dampening system called Adaptive Dynamics is fitted. This is a more advanced setup compared to simple, two-step dampers in the outgoing XF Supercharged. The second bit of chassis trickery is even more interesting. It's called Active Differential Control (ADC) and is an electronically controlled limited-slip rear end. It utilizes an electric motor with a multi-plate clutch and can actively transmit torque to the wheel with the most grip. Jaguar claims that ADC offers increased traction while avoiding the negatives of a fully mechanical differential such as increased understeer. Jaguar says that in dynamic mode, the dampers are stiffened and with the stability control switched off, ADC allows controllable power oversteer and improved off-throttle stability...

Let me be sure I got it right. They finally enlarged the old 4.2 to a 5.0. Will the supercharged 4.2 stay? Will a normally aspirated 5.0 come to the XF? Will superchargers just be for R models? I can actually see keeping all 3 engines. The regular 300hp XF isn't gonna win any races but its more than enough power for most. The XF supercharged is great for guys who don't want the run of the mill. The XFR is great for the guys who have to buy as much engine as possible and for bragging rights.

TauronB2G,

This is an all new engine. Only loosely based on the design of the AJ-V8. The two engines look completely different. It has DI and a few other new technologies.

It looks very nice but for some reason I'm having a bad association with Jag because of the whole Ford thing , I wish they never dealt with them , not saying Ford is bad , but Jag is Jag , but other wise not bad at all , comparing it to E amg and M5 ? mmm I wouldn't , the interior is lacking here I think , also the M and the AMG just has more soul to it that makes it so hot and desireable.
