2010 Ford Taurus Unveiled in Detroit

2010 Ford Taurus Unveiled in Detroit
Ford has decided put the bland current generation Taurus behind them by officially unveiling the new 2010 Taurus at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The exterior portrays a much more polished image with its Euro inspired styling and powerdome hood. A lowered roofline gives the new sedan a more aggressive appearance and the sculpted body work helps to back up that message. Wheel sizes will range from 17- to 20-inches with the specific intention of filling the wheel wells more tightly, resulting in a more substantial exterior appearance.

Under the hood resides Ford's 3.5-liter Duratec V6 that is rated at 263 horsepower and 249 foot-pounds of torque, while the engine is a carry over from the previous model it is hooked up to two brand new six-speed automotive transmissions that offer better fuel economy and enhanced driver involvement. The company has also announced plans to add the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine to the Taurus lineup later this year, that engine will most likely provide power for the upcoming Taurus SHO. Ford is backing up the sporty exterior appearance with several new performance options such as the SelectShift transmission that features rev-matching downshifts and the ability to hold gears and the new SR1 suspension that has stiffer rear shocks and offers a better balance between cornering and handling.

No it's still not the Mondeo!

Unfortunately, bringing the Mondeo over would make too much sense; thus, the new Taurus.

wow amazing job... Ford is really making an astonishing turnaround! I really like the design of the new fusion aswell. Gm is has also begun its turnaround with the new CTS and Malibu. I am really impressed. I hope detriot never returns to making sub par cars again. Toyota will really need to update the camry soon as they have been slacking lately but i am sure they won't disappoint! It is amazing how companies such as Hyundai, Ford and GM can improve so rapidly. It is becoming harder and harder to point out the losers in a segment as competition becomes fiercer and fiercer! Well in the end all it does is benefit us!

Not bad. Looks like New Ford Taurus is a Ford 400 + Audi + Last Generation Toyota Camry. Crease on the side should've been more pronounced or not there at all. Tail lights are probably the most orginal I've seen in a long time. I only cringe when I think about the huge expanse of cheap plastic that's going to be on the dash. I hope Ford pulls it off though.

I must say, I am impressed but slightly disappointed that it really looks more watered down from the initial 'spy' shot that was posted here some time ago. This vehicle is 'right now' and should be on the road today, and I think the EcoBoost should be there at launch for full effectiveness. But hey that is me. I do believe that Ford is on the right track, but we need more Euro flavor (Kinetic design cues) now. Stay positive, I will be buying domestic this year and am looking to be wowed by the Big 3.

No pictures of rear, bad sign. It's like the designers took off the camo after testing and said: "Uh......crap.......the rear came out all wrong, better not spoil the press shots with this ugliness." Why can't they just give us the Mondeo already??!!

It would seem Ford is the king of the cross chops between multiple japanese and european cars into one car and call it theirs.

Take a 1998 Honda Accord fascia, Subaru grille, 2002 Infiniti M35 rear profile, 2006 Passat rear, Audi side profile... tweak a little here, add a lower front grille opening witha subtle version of our new 'kinetic' design direction (as seen on the 2010 Ford Fiesta), mix well and pray that people think the Fusion and Taurus are better than the Accord (as we all know, Ford markets both of them against the Accord and Camry... further confusing potential customers that want a CLEAR and DEFINED choice in the mid-size market).

Told you guys to buy Ford stock in late November 2008 when it was close to $1.00 per share.

Beautiful car, great interior, if the quality & fit/finish are as good as they look, I think they have a winner. Same goes for many of the new GM designs/products.

Question is, is it too little too late? The next few months will involve declining sales for ALL car makers, I think it's not sales that will determine the survivors, but cost efficiency and cash retention.

We shall see.....

I LOVE the rear of this but the front looks like something I've seen before. What could it be? Copy and paste the following link and give my your honest opinion: http://www.flickr.com/photos/manisha_and_ravi/360850691/

It doesn't look quite as good as the spy shot but it still looks awesome--a HUGE improvement over the current one. The front is similar to the Hyundai Santa Fe for those wondering.

I'm soooo tired of those front fender false-vent trim pieces. Ford please remove them. Also, it those are the production side mirrors, they look rather small/not very functional. Otherwise it looks ok. Definitely better than the last one, but I think the new fusion looks better.

also, what's with american car-makers and their need to make cars *look* as big and blocky as possible? This one is certainly not the worst example, but Dodge went down this path big time.

"HOMO"? Are we in 3rd grade? Yeah, I made a few comments on what I view to be shortcomings. Get over it.

If Ford wants to hit the home run that hyundaifansdotcom spoke about then Ford needs to bump the power of the V6 up to an even 400hp and then offer a manual transmission, like the original SHO did. I'm not a fan of more than two pedals, but a LOT of people seem to think a sport sedan requires a manual. That would certainly bring more than a few new buyers in the showrooms.

I don't find it as striking as I'd anticipated, but it's handsome nonetheless...

The best news is probably the return of the SHO with this new version in 2011!

Honestly I like Ford alot and I am a little disappointed. It does look good but I was hoping for a game changer. Maybe it drives like the Mondeo.

What they mean by "Euro inspired styling" is that they borrowed styling cues from Ford's European models. They are borrowing from Ford Europe.
