Calif. court OKs false claims suit over Honda Civic

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A California appeals court on Monday cleared the way for the owner of a hybrid Honda Civic to sue the car's maker for false advertising in a lawsuit that claims Honda has had so many complaints about the hybrid it has told U.S. regulators it wants to revise the mileage rating.

The state appeals court in San Diego remanded the false advertising claims back to the trial court, acknowledging that while Federal law does protect carmarkers from some lawsuits over disclosure of fuel economy standards, it does not preempt them from being sued over everything they say about fuel efficiency.

The lawsuit is not the first to challenge the Civic Hybrid's mileage claims.

A Honda representative said the company does not comment on ongoing litigation.

good. maybe people will start realizing tthe sham they paid for. Has anyone realized that Honda is being sued over their Accords as well? They changed the speedo gears a bit to make it seem like you were getting better mileage than you were. everyone who leased a vehicle was given extra mileage on the lease. I cannot believe this is never brought up and our media is willing to protect the japanese imports and not back the big 3.
our media is terrible

Honda is shady like that sometimes, Boost your comment. My cousin had a "god's gift" honda accord from like 2000 which had its transmission die at 60,000 miles. Honda wouldn't fix the tranny b/c the car was "built in Canada". Give me a break, if that were Ford or Mercedes, there'd be 10,000,000 naysayers and liberal whiners out there complaining.

Still, As much as the previous comments are right, this guy with the lawsuit is a jackass. Its like saying "I bought an escalade and i want to sue GM b/c it gets bad mileage". Granted, this guy has a lawsuit b/c he isn't achieving the advertised mileage, so too bad, so sad. Honda builds the vehicle, it doesnt make the mileage ratings. It still gets great mileage (even though it is a car that screams "I have no idea about cars and I have a liberal arts degree and I think Im better than you while I sip my mocha-latte at starbucks"). I'd never get one, i've never been a honda fan, but still... Welcome to America, home of the BS lawsuits.

This IS a stupid lawsuit, and I am no fan of Honda because they ARE the most overrated and arrogant car company on planet earth! When there engineers go potty they have to turn the fan on just like everyone else!
