Could this be the C Class coupe? It appears that in their desire to have a unified styling theme, Mercedes has made it nearly impossible to distinguish the differences between its models, beyond size. The front looks identical to the current C Class.

Great job, I can see some Lexus IS inspiration in the tail lights and some Cadillac inspiration in the grille and bumper treatments...not a bad thing, just sayin'
Beautiful looking car, though.

I owned a first-generation CLK coupe - lovely machine. However, I did NOT like the second-generation CLK at all.
I can see vestiges of the second-generation CLK in this new E-class coupe. Hopefully those vestiges will be less noticeable in official photos.

like the sedan, rear end is very weak. Taillights are very Lexus ESishh. Overall looks fine especially in that AMG kit.

The more I see this car the better it looks, I still dont get the taillights the new sonota has lights just like that, and the also wrap around to the fenders also ironically.....one thing no one can seem to answer for me is this new e class coupe based on the c class or on the new e class which is based on the current e class.

I believe it's based on the E Class. The next CL (S-Class coupe) is likely to be based off the S as well. Hence the name changes.

interesting point to note is that the rear window on the side had a seem in it....
the car really appeared to look like a mini cl in person but I actually like the proportions of it much more. I think this car will be a real winner. Also, the grille was extremely sharp and angular, reminiscent of older mercs, meeting at point at the end of the hood.

It looks good, but Mercedes seems like it's running out of ideas for the rear lights! But actually, those tail lights seem like an evolution of the 94-02 design of the E class.
I was wondering... Isn't the CLK supposed to be the equivalent of an E coupe?

It's also funny how the E60 5 series started this tail lights trend, and then was followed by the Lexus ES, LS, IS, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and now the Mercedes E class.

The E60's lights don't extend onto the trunk lid like all those other cars you mentioned.

Actually, check the pictures side by side and you will see that they do. More than you think.

This is much better than the sedan. All the elements of design flow quite nicely.

By the way, this is based off of the new E-Class sedan platform, hence the new nomenclature. The CLK was based off the C-Class sedan platform, but was "upmarketed" more in line with the E-Class. There has not been an actual E-Class coupe that was actually based of the E-Class since the 1985-1995 W124 platform. I had one, a 1989 300CE that I loved to death.

ok Ive heard different things ive heard the new e class coupe was actually based on the c class platform despite its name. The new e class isnt on a new platform but just updated, that is where my confusion wasnt sure what to believe. guess closer to time I will know

+1. It still is not attractive. If they really keep this as a three piece window they will ruin the CL-inspired roofline and C-pillar.
