Chrysler Goes Into Garage Sale Mode Selling Off Assetts
Struggling U.S. automaker Chrysler is in talks to sell assets to Renault-Nissan and parts supplier Magna, sources with knowledge of the discussions have told Reuters, though the French automaker Wednesday denied such talks were under way.

The third-largest U.S. automaker is under pressure to restructure after accepting $4 billion in U.S. government loans as slowing economies and tight financing shrink global demand for vehicles.

Agreed, Jeep should go on its own, or even under a more financially stable parent company, because without Chrysler's cost-cutting restrictions their interiors and engines could be built as well as their bodies and suspensions.

Chrysler denies reports of sales; "Despite well-publicized reports that Chrysler is in serious discussions to sell off some of its assets, including its core auto brands, Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler, the automaker’s President adamantly denied the reports. Chrysler LLC President Tom LaSorda said this morning on a conference call with the media that the company has no intention to sell off its brands".

While Chrysler may not be in talks to sell off brands it could easily merge with Renault-Nissan (which has many pluses for Chrysler) or be bought outright by Magna (which recently hired Wolfgang Bernhard former VW exec).

I think at this point Cerberus is pretty clear that it doesn't want the manufacturing part of Chrysler, only the financing arm.

part of the issue stems form the Merger with Daimler. Daimler did little to make Chrysler cars fuel efficient which is killing it now. Some designs were nice while others were WTF!?! And Chrysler has no room for mistakes. I hope Dodge and Jeep live on. Jeep seriously needs to become more MPG friendly to remain viable.

You are right about Dailmer also they didnt give Chrysler any RandD money and think they just had in their minds that Chrysler could just use old Mercedes parts.

The Chinese can just buy out the company to wither it away as they seem to be showing cars built with higher quality.

If Renault does buy the manufacturing arm of Chrysler then it would be a repeat of the past. Renault used to own shares in AMC in the late 70s/early 80s. It was Renault that sold AMC (and as a result, Jeep which was a part of AMC) to Chrysler. All things being equal I think an alliance with Renault may yield results of sorts. The Renault-Nissan alliance sure pumped a lot of interesting ideas into Nissan.

No surprise here. When sales drop over 50 percent something has got to give.

I fell like Nissan should buy them and kill off most of the cars. Keep the trucks and vans. Keep the core Jeep vehicles along with all the electric cars and this will also give them access to the dual hybrid tech that Dailmer,BMW and GM were working on.

Chrysler will never divulge their plans of selling any of their assets if they are talking with potential buyers so as not to appear that nobody wants it if the sale does not push through. My bet is still a chinese company will step up to the plate and offer the most money for Chrysler. In whole or in part.
