Drop out continues: Volvo pulls out of the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show
Joining General Motors, Chrysler and Ford, Volvo is the latest automaker (a division of Ford) to drop out of the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show in October.
“We have evaluated our participation at motor shows for 2009 to see how we can make the most out of our resources, and this year we decided not to participate at Tokyo,” said Volvo spokeswoman Maria Bohlin in an e-mail to Automotive News.
With the number of automakers pulling out of the show as global auto sales have slowed down, Tokyo Motor Show organizers are debating whether or not the show will take place later this year.

An auto show without GM, Ford (including Volvo), and Chrysler? Sounds like a dream, to me.

Funny I think this is something that is really a function of reining in spending to where it matters most. The reality of different markets and their shows is that companies want to make their biggest impressions where they are the most relevant. I think we will continue to see this trend moving through the next couple of years. Sadly to those of us stateside, the cool German, Euro brands may not show us their wares first which translates the same (seemingly) to the Japanese market. Too bad for all os us auto show attendees.
