Lexus to Recall 214,000 U.S. Cars

Lexus to Recall 214,000 U.S. Cars
Toyota said Friday that it has launched a safety recall of about 214,500 Lexus vehicles sold in the U.S. due to the potential corrosion of the cars' fuel delivery pipes.

Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. is recalling the vehicles in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall affects GS300/350, IS250/350, and LS460/460L Lexus vehicles with model years 2006 through 2008.
According to Toyota's statement, some ethanol fuels with a low moisture content may corrode the internal surface of the fuel delivery pipes, resulting in a fuel leak over time. The pipe corrosion may trigger the malfunction indicator light in the vehicles, the company said.

Boy are you a dope. Instead of ignoring a potential problem caused by a sub-standard fuel mix (ethanol),
Lexus decides to face the problem head-on. You want to turn this into a negative?

Who are you kidding? I would wager you don't even have a drivers license, let alone drive a G37. You really are full of s**t.

this only proves Lexus makes high class vehicles, which only have problems with CHEAPSKATE OWNERS who stoop to using ethanol fuels to save a few pennies.

with only REAL GAS, this problem never occurs.

david, you say toyota chose to "face the problem head-on" as if to say other companies would hide from this sort of thing... but... they didn't have any choice, did they? they didn't "choose" anything, it is the law.

ChuckyCheese37 drives a 96 Sentra(with a wing) but it is a stick, which lends some credibility.

Toyota quality is no better than any other car out there. This recall does not surprise me.

Hey, if you're gonna run with the Big Dogs, than you're gonna have to start making subpar vehicles too and literally giving away cars. Welcome to the club Toyota!!

This is a rather large recall and like a lot of corps that don't want this to hit front page news, the report is released on the weekend. I wonder how many Toyotas are affected by this problem as well. 200k units is very large to say the least.

It's funny to find only one voice of reason on this post so far (Sailor). Imagine if this recall were from BMW or Mercedes, you would have many people saying negative things and also many people praising them for taking action and not denying the problem. So far, overwhelmingly negative for Toyota. Fact is, many manufacturers have recalls, and many for worse reasons. Has anyone ever heard of being unbiased?

No mike, please don't shut up, I feel the same way sometimes. All too often I see Lexus owners who just blindly buy Lexus without even thinking of what they are doing. At least Infiniti owners actually want Infinitis because of performance, style, etc (same for BMW/MB/Audi, etc). Lexus owners seem to be some of the most air-headed people I've met. (just my personal experiences though)

What should scare us most about this is that it is ethanol that is the culprit. Yet another reason to stop this absurd ethanol kick this country is on. Fortunately most Lexuses are sold in California, where we dont have that pesky ethanol. Do we? Anyone know for sure?

huu76, you are correct. If you are driving an older diesel vehicle, you may want to check to see what ULSD does to your engine. Also, you probably want to check out what bio-diesel does as well, it is more of a lubricant that ULSD. Make sure to clean fuel filters often as well, different grades of diesel have different solvent properties.

no, the only time your are going to get the government to mandate something that makes sense is....never. Only whiny anti-detroit environmentalist or anti-big business liberal groups get their whacko legislation passed. I can't believe the garbage I was hearing on TV about a month ago with morons talking about forcing the automakers only to make electric cars or hybrids...... since command-style industry worked so well for Russia...........

I own 2 Lexus cars and unfortunately have some minor problems with both. I wouldn't have expected to have a rattle on a 2008 luxury car or a speaker blow out on a Mark Levingson sound system :( I have always liked Lexus cars and this was the first pair I was able to afford (for me and my wife), so this is very disappointing to me. Especially since one of them is an IS and now I have to go take it in again. I still do like Lexus (love the interior, nav, attention to detail, customer service, handling on the IS), but their reliability fame hasn't been realized for us. That's an unbiased and honest answer.

How would you know what a nice interior looks and feels like? You have likely never sat in any of the vehicles you comment on let alone a Lexus. Now go in the backseat
of your mom's Sentra and take a nap.

Hmmmm... What is a Q45? Is it that one car from Datsun that was replaced after 2006 by the Kia Optima?

Chuck, what the hell are you talking about? Lexus may have some issues, but compared to Lexus interiors, your Infinitis are POS cars. The Nissan Lexus-wannabee cars aren't even styled that different from the cheaper platforms they're based off of. The I30 was a POS with a cheap interior like the Nissan Maximas. The G20 was a POS looked like a Nissan Sentra. And I can barely tell the plasticky Z car interior from the G coupe's.

Muh...I suspect this SanJoseDriver guy is telling a fib. He's faking like he's a little bothered by the two problems with his two Lexuses. I'm here to tell you guys this is a basher in disguise posing as a once loyal brand owner. "DON'T FALL FOR IT"!

Now take ChuckyG37 for instance. This is a real life Toy/Lex hater with a passion. He sounds foolish and his useless, worthless comments are thoughtless. He tells it like he can't see it no matter what the real proven evidence say. He does'nt mind sounding like a true Norbit. So guys don't let him upset you because the truth of the matter is Toy/Lex is not perfect but, overall Toy/Lex is the best made money can buy regardless of price. As time goes on all competing auto manufcs will improve and recalls are here to stay no matter who or what brand you're passionate about.

Ahh, the almighty recall. big deal, recalls happen all over the place. Only "good" thing about Toyota recalls is that moronic people in USA start to see that no manufacturer is without its faults.

on another note, as much as I truly believe the auto-world is over-regulated, I'd like to see E85 compliance become a standard by 2015 or something. Not b/c I want to use E85, but in the event that we are cut off from foreign oil or something like that, we need to have backup plans!!
