Is Toyota Risking YOUR Resale Value By Increasing New Car Rebates?
Coming off a sharp sales decline in December, Toyota Division is trying to lure buyers into showrooms with new cash offers for customers and dealers.

Even the Prius is getting support, after having been excluded from the brand's lavish incentive program in the last quarter of 2008. Toyota put $750 in dealer cash on the hood of the hybrid car.

The new cash incentives are a reversal of Toyota's marketing tactics for the past three months, when the division emphasized 0 percent financing, low interest rates and lease programs.

In a word, Yes. Anytime you take money away from the original MSRP its going to affect resale, even theirs. But with the economy the way that it is right now I do understand why they are doing it. They still wont be affected as much as the BIG 3 will by doing this though. I predict the resale of Toyota cars will come closer to the resales of the past.

Hey ChumpG37, Why do you even bother to spew your garbage about Toyota or Lexus, when resale value is something Datsun knows nothing about? The fact that your Infiniti 370Z won a couple of mediocre awards against BMW doesn't mean anything. One model doesn't make up for the intire Datsun/Infiniti (same thing) P.O.S. line-up. There is a reason why the Q45 isn't being produced anymore, so quit bragging about it like it's a god-send.

Chuck, Infiniti/Nissan have some of the biggest rebates and highest incentives and lowest lease deals for years. You can lease a G37 for the price of Camry. lol

I was once a Nissan/Infiniti nut like ChuckG37. One day I got over the trouble I had with my 87 Stanza and 89 Maxima se and that ugly and troublesome 91 Q45. In 1998 I bought a used 94 teal green corolla DX and that was it. Then it was a used 95 ES300 and after that a 99 Landcruiser. That was it because after the Landcruiser....Game Over. I have'nt looked back since and I ain't going back. I KNOW TOO MUCH NOW AND I PREDICT THAT CHUCKYG37 WILL SOON FISS OUT AND HE TO WILL BECOME A DEFECTOR....MANY OTHER ARE COMING FROM HONDA AND NISSAN SO, IN THE MEAN TIME JUST KEEP ON BASHING AWAY CAUSE THE BIG TOY WILL WEAR YOU OUT BUDDY!!

With rebate or not, given the economic crisis, car prices will eventually drop.

The lack of sales/demand will inherently drive prices lower without the help of rebates. Rebates are just a way mfg throw consumers a bone to try and bail them out of their cars. If people would maintain a trade cycle of 5 plus years, rebates wouldn't be needed.
