Mercedes-Benz G-Class celebrates its 30th anniversary
The Hollywood celeb favorite, rugged off-road vehicle G-Class by Mercedes-Benz has been in production for already three decades and will be celebrating its 30th year this coming February. Originally launched in 1979, it came with four powerplants and five body styles which remained unaltered until 1991 when it was replaced by an updated version which is still currently on sale.

Numerous other G-class variants were introduced in the intervening years as the 4X4 shifted away from it utilitarian origins. The present G55 AMG comes with a 5.4 liter V8 with 493bhp and 516lb-ft of torque and a capacity of an acceleration rate of 62mph from zero in 5.5 seconds.

'Mercedes-Benz' and 'great engineering' are just synonyms really. Mercedes platforms across their entire range of products stay in production for years beyond other manufacturers due to superior efforts in engineering from the start.

Mercedes builds awesome automobiles but Lexus has been able to virtually duplicate the performance and still offer a quality product that isn't in the shop every other week.

In terms of refinement and technical sophistication, this car is a 30-year-old WRECK. Don't see any reason to celebrate this.
