Toyota planning new range of electric vehicles for 2012
Currently, Toyota is still deciding what car platform and model will be powered by batteries for their new EV. They are still in the process of overcoming two of the greatest obstacles that haunt EVs, namely battery development and consumers’ acceptance of range limitations.

According to Bill Reinert, Toyota’s alternative-fuel vehicle manager in the US, they are trying to aim for a range of 50 miles even when features such as heater, defroster, wipers and stability control are all in operation. Battery type is still the popular lithium-ion with charging time of 6 hours for 110V outlets and 2 hours for 220V. It is the hope of Toyota that the EV will become a common option for the family’s secondary or tertiary mode of transport.

Range of 50 miles would be functional in European cities, for US market 100 mile range would be the minimum. The 1997-2003 Toyota RAV4EV had 24 12-volt 95Ah NiMH batteries capable of storing 27.4kWh had a >100 mile charge range, the ones still operational today aproximate 75 mile per charge with original factory batteries.

The "golf cart" is fastest than a gasoline car.
Fastest gasoline car, Bugatti Veyron 16.4 = 253.3 mph.
Fastest electric car, Buckeye Bullet = 321.8 mph.
If you fail to see the transition from gas to electric as the future of performance cars (100% Torque, 100% of the Time) you are in the 20th century still.
