BMW and Mercedes, be afraid...Be VERY afraid

No matter what the pundits say (That it is still not as good as a 3-series), AutoSpies.com predicts that within twelve months of its release, the competitors will be wondering what hit them...

It's better looking than the new 3-series or C-Class, fit/finish is outstanding and its performance is excellent.

The unit forecast is over 40k for the first year.

That's more than three times what they sold last year.

And anyone in the car business knows that if you're an executive and you forecast units, you'd BETTER make the number, or you're HISTORY.

All auto execs are famous for being ultra conservative when they forecast (it's called protecting your rear!)so this kind of swagger is unheard of, unless you're POSITIVE you have a winner.

Common sense tells me that if they make the forecast (and we predict they will), then those extra sales gotta come from somewhere.

And that somewhere is from BMW and Mercedes dealerships.

Get ready to see some bloodshed...

2006 Lexus IS-series Review:

I had a chance to check out the new IS at a pre-launch event last week, and I can say with great confidence that the car looks as good in the metal as it does on your computer screen. This is the first vehicle to fully showcase the L-Finesse styling theme, embodying swooping curves, creased fender peaks, and unique angles, tautly stretched over minimal overhangs to produce a decidedly athletic stance. Its surface contortions reflect light in a most dramatic fashion, inspiration from behind a camera's lens. More clearly defined shapes, such as the narrowing grille, triangular intakes on the lower front valance, and 3D surfaced tail lamps bring out in-depth character traits. It's a much more beautiful vehicle than BMW's 3-Series, but then again the Italians, rumoured to have influenced its shape, have long been masters of style.

Inside, quality is just as good, if not better than the GS. Even though this is a less
expensive model, the same high-end matte,soft-touch plastics, burnished metals, and glossy woods have been incorporated throughout so that it feels very expensive. Keyless entry with a push-button start button is standard, and a large, touch-screen LCD display provides the main controls for climate and stereo functions. One original IS hallmark, the chronograph instrument cluster, has been replaced by less confusing Optitron gauges. The doors shut with a satisfying 'thunk', and like the GS or LS, easily mute out the nearby rabble of on-lookers'.

To the surprise of many, initial tests have shown that the IS has a shot against high-powered specialty models. Lexus claims the
automatic IS 350 to take "less than six-seconds" to reach 100 km/h. By comparison, preliminary tests by other magazines have shown it to be far quicker - expect real life figures to reflect low to mid fives! By comparison the V8-powered Audi S4 can reach 100 km/h in a claimed 5.6 seconds when equipped with a six-speed automatic.

The new IS350 definetly have a chance to be king in it class for sure. With new design and improve in performance, it will definitely take the Title away from the current king. With 307 Horse Power 0-60 in 5.6-5.9 range, that is fast.

If you want to bring in the 330 M performance package, let just said it faster than the IS350 if, but How Does it Cost you Croney? way more than the IS350 for sure.

Just with entil the IS460 sport package to come out it will Dust your bmw 330 M like a Bicyle. The IS460 is currently being tested in Germany. It has 450+ horse power so Do the math Croney. When the IS460 come out it will definitely be faster than your baby 330i M package.

Plus we all comparing the Standard model not Modify M3 version. BMW M3 is in the porsche 911 segment not IS350. If you want to talk shit just wait entil the IS460 with 450+ Ponie it will dust your 330i M package for sure.

And for the 2006 BMW 330i 255 ponie, 0-60 in 6.1 Pretty slow if you ask me compare to the IS350 in the low 5 second range. By the way the New IS350 beat your new 2006 BMW 330 serie in every category, Yes even from 0-60 the IS350 dust the BMW 330i like nothing.

If you don't believe me, go ahead and read some auto magazine at the new stand and there are alot of auto magazine that confirm this test that the Lexus IS350 is way much Faster.... than bmw 330.

I know you Love BMW as much as I do for Lexus but sooner or later Lexus is taking over croney, like or not. Several year ago Lexus was a contender Now it is the Leader/King in it Class. Now BOW to your new King, Oh we are not Worthy.....LOL :)

Croney79- Dont waste your time with this kid (Lexus)

I lost my cool last week and had a blog on blog war.

Totally agree with every comment you just made.

I drive a ZHP M-package 330i like you and wouldnt take any Lexus over it. Best BMW I've had yet.

And Lexus, I must tell you that there ARE NO plans at this time to release a IS460. At least not in the next two years.

And the recent Car and Driver/Automobile mags have still rated the BMW 330i the BEST sports sedan in its class. Over the IS350.

Lexus is getting pretty darn good. But they'll never be BMW.

Like it or now Lexus is taking baby, Now Bow to your new King; the New IS350, oh we are not worthy oh great one,LOL:)

Lexus

Croney get your fact straight your 2004 330i with 235 ponie probably did 0-60 in 6.5.6.9 range.

Lexus-

Youre facts are always incorrect. ALWAYS
The M 330i goes from 0-60 in 5.6(man) 5.9(auto)
The E46 330i (2005) does it in 6.0 flat with a manual.
The current 330i is even quicker (5.7-5.8) i believe.
Not that this matters. BMW cares about a lot more than 0-60 times.

So enjoy your nice Navigation system and Back Up Camera.

And I'll enjoy my sweet six speed transmission and fat steering wheel.

BTW- Chris, there never was a 328Xi. Never. And my passengers never complain "being driven" in my car.

ContiRoane, LOL:) sorry bro, here let me corret myself by using the correct infor you provided. BMW M3 0-60 in 5.6, and 5.9 auto,E46 330i (2005) 6.0 flat with a manual. But I still think the Lexus IS350 is Quicker, LOL:), 0-60 like 5.1-5.5 range. LOL :)

See ContiRoane I got NOTING Against BMW, in fact I really Like the 645/650 beamer and even the New 3 serie. The only thing I don't like in the new 3 series and 645/650 Serie is the Interior Design. I wish they would spend more time on it, especially the gauge panel in the 645 coupe, after all, it is a $80K$$ coupe.

But Lexus will always be my favorite car on top of the list, and of course the Sexy Aston Martin AMV8 and DB9, Yeah......., and there the beamer and the Bentley GT too, LOL:)

Wake up guys, Lexus has not exactly been a huge threat on Merc or Bimmer. Check the facts: since the 1989 launch of Toyota's Lexus brand, Mercedes car group close to tripled its sales, while the BMW car group sales has more than quadropled (!). Lexus helped bringing high quality cars to the masses, many of whom experienced high end vehicles for the first time. This has certainly helped BMW and Mercedes sales as a lot of staisfied owners stepped up in the following years. The IS will be a fine car (IMHO the only good looking Lexus apart from the truly ingenious RX series) and hopefully will have a significantly better resale value than the outgoing IS (especially the DOA "IS SportCross").

All Sport Sedans will always be bowing to the 3-Series.

History tells us this.

There is just nothing that comes close at this price point.

Skeptics say what you will.....In the back of your head....You know you're wrong.

I think u r the only man other than me who talks about the reallity more than giving our own comments, ideas or description about a car and make it a dud or stud instead.

Nice to hear some true words after a long time about Lexus/Toyota.

As i am not wsating my time in typing but my idea is nearly similar to yours as

Desertpimp-

I've owned 5 BMWS and NEVER had any problems.

All were very reliable. Not to mention that BMW pays for all my service for 4 years. Something Lexus doesnt do!!

Also- Why do you think lots of BMWS on the road are used?
Could it be how well they hold up over time.

You said it best- After the first few months, the new IS350 will slowly die down. This is not a timeless design.

Dont post your end of the year sales figures, because frankly no one cares. Thats what Autospies is for.

You said Lexus sells the most cars yet then you say you never see them on the road. OOKKAAYY!! That why everytime I'm at a stoplight, I look to my left and see a 80 year old woman driving and LS or a balding old man in a GS.

Lexus is a car company for people who like to isolate themselves from the world.

It simply cannot be compared to a performance company like BMW and Mercedes.

And EVERYONE I think that Jugnu is really LEXUS in disguise.
Calling his own facts true, clear!!!!! All his facts are dead wrong!!!

A Lexus is a Toyota. Plain and Simple.

Say what you will. People buy them for being smooth and quiet.

Theres NO PASSION whatsoever in their engineering.

The BMW warranty includes EVERYTHING.

Anything goes wrong and they take responsibility.

And yes, when I spend 50 grand, its nice to get perks.

Like never having to pay a dollar to service my car.

The REAL sophisticated car companies like BMW AUDI BENZ
JAGUAR do this. Its not a ploy. Its a perk.

So its sophisticated to pay for an oil change and get free donuts.

What a crock.

Youre a typical Lexus owner. The type that brags to friends about your Navigation Systems and superb audio.

I brag to my friends about how much fun driving my car is.

About the smile on my face.

And what a pleasure it is to drive/own a BMW.

I could care less what people like you think about my car choice.

I'll enjoy my Sports Sedan.

You enjoy your japanese Buick with leather.

And yes Toyota Motor Company is on the move.

But they'll never interfere with BMW.

You obviously have never driven a BMW.

If a cars merits were judged purely on sales figures of ONE country, there would be no need for car magazines.

Dont use sales figures people, its like saying, the new Lexus GS MUST be good, coz my neighbour has one.

Well your neighbour has bad taste.

I would first ask for a raise of hands of people here who have driven the new IS 350/250. And then a raise of hands for those who have driven it and still believe that it has "NO PASSION" in its engineering. Great.

Reading some of the posts here makes me shake my head with wonder.

Are some people really that estranged with reality that they think that the majority of 3 series buyers are autocrossers that push their cars the the limits everyday, even on the way to work which they need to pay off their car? I mean, the majority of 3 sales are 325's and make that Automatic Trannies!

When a "driving enthusiast" is buying a 3-Series, they are making a HUGE compromise on handling. Why not buy a Porsche Boxter S? That is a great handling car. The answer: convenience! (Although, the Boxter now has two trunks) The reason I am very intrigued by the IS 350 is because it looks to have everything that I desire in a sport luxury sedan.

The review for the IS 350 again reinforced my beliefs that this car is not an outright failure. The reviewers had stated that the car has "razor sharp handling". That kind of handling is just fine by my standards, after all, the way characteristics of handling is described is different by everyones standards. Theres always war between all car enthusiasts: Which has better handling, a Carrera GT, Enzo, Murcielago, SLR McLarren, Ford GT,...?

To boot, the IS 350 has the BEST luxury features of ANY of the competition, bar none! Afterall people, this IS a luxury sedan, don't forget the sport, which Lexus didn't.

What I want (Why I will buy an IS 350): SPORT/SPEED! ("The 2006 version has everything I liked about the last car, just more of it. More power, more comfort, better handling and sexy lines.", Road Test Editor, Dan Kan), amazing audio system (ML System... I'm a big Harman Itn'l fan and they have the best engineers), sexy sexy exterior (no explanation necessary!), sexy sexy sexy luxuriously supple interior, safety, and also reliability.

Why I will NOT buy a BMW: Reliability, I am not that obsessive over handling when for the majority of the time, I am not going to be driving the twisties on a daily basis, and if i WAS then a Boxter S, not a sedan, would do just fine. Therefore, I will not sacrifice that which is higher up in the priorities of wants in a luxury sport sedan.

So, all in all, the basis of purchasing a sport sedan should be weighed on your priorities. If the fact that the BMW 3 edges out the IS 350 in handling is the deal breaker for you, then faaaaaaaaantastic, I guess....
