Toyota will continue to sell old Prius when the 2010 model goes on sale
Japan’s Nikkei claims that Toyota will continue to sell the current Prius in Japan when the new third-generation Prius launches later this summer. The business paper said that Toyota plans to keep selling the outgoing Prius with a lower price tag in order to stay competitive with the new 2010 Honda Insight.

According to Nikkei, Toyota will gut the interior of the current Prius as a...

Why would anyone want to buy an old Prius when they know a new one is out? Surely the consumer knows their financial situation. Why settle for second best?. The quality on the Prius isn't the greatest either, especially for a Toyota. Best bet is the upcoming generation.

You'll be driving a NEW 2009 Prius in 2010. Won't that make you feel like an idiot? Sure it's good on fuel consumption but the environment has already been damaged in the long run by driving one.

i think this time Toyota should also consider Middle East market and sell it here as well. Prius is such an icon. Maybe will not be the countymen's favourite but the millions expatriates would like it. Camry and Corolla crowd.

Excuse me. Did I read you correctly? The Prius is an "icon"? The only reason the Prius has even achieved "iconic status" is because of the hype around its "greenliness" and because image-conscious celebrities flocked to the Toyota dealers in order to change their image. In my honest opinion there is nothing iconic about this car.

LexusBeautyQueen....sounds like you're high on the "green" movement; and I'm not referring to the Prius.

you are correct. the haters ignore the fact that honda also builds hybrids, as does ford and gm. NONE are as successful as the prius. take the average joe off the street AND the average gearhead; mention
"hybrid" and it will be toyota products which instantly leap to mind, with Prius heading the list. so it IS iconic.

First of all Chump, this move is being done in Japan not the US. Second, you (supposedly) drive a import and you have the audacity to make this statement about Toyota? You sir are the biggest idiot that has ever posted on these threads. You are probably on par with this other troll who used to post his garbage on here who went by the name of MichaelTaylor. You drive a BMW wanna-be (Datsun G37) and you probably still live at home with mommy and daddy. Why don't you go out and hang out with some friends or something, oh wait! do you even have any?

They have to do it I mean down here our official Nissan dealer is still selling the 2008 Murano while a bunch of people are importing the redesigned O9 Murano themselves! The 08 Murano isnt even being sold cheaper its still $37,000!

This is a bad idea that will dilute the brand of all value.
Toyota is making a very poor choice and will be easy for the Insight to beat them at their own game.

One reason cars aren't selling is that they are too expensive and incomes-savings are just going down every week.

Hey Toyota - about making a Camry at a decent price.

if the camry were priced according to its true value and quality, it would be priced against buicks and chryslers rather than fords and chebbies.

and if anyone doubts this, just check the typical used car prices on 3-5 year old models of all these brands!

When they bring out the new 2010 PRIUS, does that mean they'll call the old version the 2010 PRIVIUS???
