001 Tests The 2009 Porsche Boxster PDK In Sicily- Best Handling Car Ever?
As I sit here in the new 2009 Porsche Boxster PDK emotions are running high here in Sicily for a number of reasons.
First, this is my first visit ever to the land my grandparents emigrated from AND I love driving the Boxster S EVERY time I get behind the wheel because I think it is a great total package and of the best handling cars ever.
Here are the first shots from my drive yesterday and shots from the new Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

Not likely, I think it will barely beat a 370z on a timed lap. Heck, it may not even do that. Best handling-if you said ZR1, GT-R or Lambo lp-560, maybe I'd believe you. All of the above would hand the boxster its ass on any given Sunday, leap years included. The boxster and Cayman (Gayman) aren't even the best handling Porsches lol.

Why are you guys hating on this car? It is people like you that ruins the image of a Boxster. I may never buy one but I certainly respects its driving dynamics. I've driven an 07 Boxster S and it surprised me. I admit I was too quick to speak and the "entry-level" Porsche bit me in the ass. It was a thrill to drive. With the addition of a PDK it can only get better. Not over powered to ruin the experience but not too little that it doesn't get your adrenaline pumping.
I didn't like the first generation Boxster but this is definitely the best looking by far. It has evolved from a dud to a stud in my books. Kraut all you want but you won't be hating after you actually drive one.
As for the 370Z it's the fastest car under $40K and it's one great car in its own respect. Although the 370Z has an improved Infiniti-esque interior, it's by no means a premium car. The level of quality and build can't compare to a Porsche.
Deboost me all you want, I don't care, it's just my opinion and it's just the internet.

i also think this is the best looking boxster to date. the pdk seems to do wonders. perhaps the pdk is what they needed all along. have yet to drive a boxster but have heard great things about it. i should find myself in a dealership asking for a test drive. in response to the 370z i agree its not a premium car and it is the best car for your dollar under 40 grand.

Great pics! I really like what Porsche has done this year's version of the 987. I even think they have the best lineup of colors that I can recall. Looks like a great time.

Looks amazing - I am of course a little disappointed I snagged a 2007 Boxster S in July 2008. I have to admit, given all the "under $70k" premium brand sports cars I looked at, it was the best handling and most comfortable car I drove. Not sure it is "the best handling car ever" but, hey, maybe the new model is that much better.
I also love the pics of the new museum.

Why? Top Gear said Boxter easily out-handled the BMW Z4 M and the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG. Edmunds Insideline commented the car like so: "Amazing composure, perfect steering, wonderful engine, glorious transmission, stunning brakes, and it's built like a Porsche. ||| Handling Comments: Awesome grip on the skid pad for a high-volume production car. Very easy to find and balance at the limit. Noticeable body roll in the slalom doesn't seem to hurt the Boxster through transitions. Still, this is faster than the last Porsche Cayman we tested." The Boxter S also posted essentially better slalom speed and skidpad lateral acceleration than the Nissan 370Z which was recognized as one of the sharpest affordable sports cars.

So which are those cars in a similar to the Boxter class that handle better than a Boxter, My Dark Master, eh?

Thats it.
I am moving to Europe now....Just look at the Autostradas and then there are the Autobahns.
And better versions of all those cars including those 400-500bhp Evos in Britain.

Hmmm let's see... being Mid engine and having a 50/50 weight distribution... yes.... it will out handle a 370Z and the other ones.
The SLK 55 is rubbish... it cannot put it's power to the ground and is just too tail happy and softer suspension.
If the Boxster/ Cayman had more power it would beat the 911, that is why the power is down from the iconic 911.
Don't be fooled... the Boxster/ Cayman is an INCREDIBLE handling machine and in the hands of the right drivers will do damages on the track!

I don't understand all this "Boxster hate". The Boxster was always the Porsche that aimed at delivering the handling-experience over the performance-experience. It's a great little car I recently had a chance to experience (as a passenger) and it made a solid impression on me. And it was also fast enough (rode in the Boxster, NOT Boxster S).

Wimmer... I did not make myself clear... sorry.
Over all the SLK 55 is incredibly fast and a cool car, but once the car is on the track, it gets owned by many other cars. It has almost too much power and the wheels are always spinning and the tail sliding. It just cannot get any grip.
There was a video not long ago from a British magazine that had about 40 cars on the track with different people driving them, and all agreed that the SLK 55 was far from being a track car. Every one hated it.

Looks awesome. I love the refresh. Although that red 993 is just breathtaking.
I don't think it's the best-handling car ever, because there's a coupe version of it. Coupes always outhandle convertibles. I can't even think of one instance where a convertible is more enjoyable to drive than its coupe twin.
