Honda Axes The S2000 At The End Of 2009
The 2009 Honda S2000 will be the final model year produced of the award-winning roadster, Honda announced today. First introduced in 1999 for the 2000 model year, the S2000 helped define its segment with class-leading handling, engine technology and value. Originally envisioned as a limited-edition tribute to Honda's 50th anniversary, S2000 production was extended in response to customer demand and critical acclaim.

"The S2000 is a sports car designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "It raised the bar for all future roadsters, and it's already considered a classic by many Honda fans."

As a true sports car that can serve as a practical and fun daily driver yet feel equally at home on a racetrack, this concept further evolved with a club racer-inspired S2000 CR trim, first offered in the 2008 model year. The S2000 has been honored with multiple awards through the years, including four appearances on Car and Driver Magazine's coveted "10-Best" list.

The S2000 is sold in 64 countries around the world with cumulative world-wide sales of over 110,000 since its introduction in 1999. Over 65,000 S2000s have been sold in the United States since 1999.

Wow, looks like them and Toyota are really taking fun away from everyone. The S2000 was a great roadster. My ex's mother had one, fun to drive.

Seriously, How many were already under the impression that the S2000 had been axed years ago? A fine vehicle in some ways, but ultimately proved too pricey, and high-strung for most shoppers, and much like the NS-X, Honda let it lie dormant for far too long.

The s2000 is not pricey at all. The development went into the most important part of the car chassis, handling, engine and drive terrain. Its that people expected many luxuries you get in a typical suv or sedan.

Great car for the less tall amongst us!! I crammed myself into one, assuring my wife that I really did fit. She was laughing so hard that even i had too join in. Market share is greatly reduced when a lot of us don't fit. Or perhaps i'm too tall.

Absolutely the wrong car for many people, yet so right for some. I love mine...it's a sad day, but its time...

The 9000 RPM redline on the older models was music to the ears. It's too bad Honda can't keep it going, the s2000 is really a driver's car. It will be missed.

Classic Honda, stuck in the past... Seriously, ten years of this under powered car is reminiscent of the NSX. Once a good car, but quickly outdone. What's with the annoying high rev motors that have no torque or horsepower when you need it (low revs), I don't miss mine. What a cramped interior too. I will admit the styling has withstood the test of time.
