Geneva Preview: Opel Ampera
Ampera is the name chosen by Opel to designate its innovative range-extending EV that comes with either five- or four-door versions. The Ampera will debut this coming March 5-15 at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

The Ampera will be the first European EV to offer customers hundreds of kilometers of superb driving an all-electric mode. Coming with GM’s Voltec, an innovative electric propulsion technology which functions drastically different from other propulsion systems, the Ampera will run on lithium-ion batteries (charged via 230V outlets) for short distances of 60km and for longer distances the car will continue to run on electricity generated by its internal combustion powerplant.
