BMW Z10 ED: The 400 HP Eco- Friendly Hybrid Supercar
Citing sources from within the company, Autocar magazine has published new details as well as a rendering of BMW's long-rumored supercar, currently dubbed Z10 ED, where ED stands for Efficient Dynamics. BMW's high-performance flagship model is said to incorporate a suite of fuel-saving technologies including a stop-start system, an integrated starter/generator and a new brake energy regeneration system modified to store energy in a lithium-ion battery, which essentially makes the Z10 ED a hybrid model.

The sketch doesn't look that bad. For some reason I don't think the classic BMW look fits well on a supercar body.

I guess BMW is copy Toyota idea with a Hybrid sport like the Toyota FT-HS Concepts shown in 2008. It okay with the sketch above but the Toyota FT-SH look way better.

There is an article too at:

Rough translation (RO->EN by Google):

"BMW change tactics

BMW had prepared for the fans in Europe a new surprise. It is a model with two seats, which will be named Z10 ED. The model will present the latest technologies on eco-friendly cars. For this supercar, BMW collaborated with Technik, the company "guilty" and Z1 and Z8 models.

The ED in its name means Efficient Dynamics, a special package that combines the newest technologies in fuel savings, with specific high-performance BMW models. Built from aluminum and carbon fiber, this model weights approximately 1400 kg. Although it is only a concept, the elements which will give good results on this, will be used on other models, and less exclusivists than this one.

Turbo engine with six cylinders in line will be improved and will work with batteries based on lithium-ion. Power will be around 400 HP (298 kW). Will use the regenerative brakes.

Price estimates for this model will be 80,000 pounds (113,000 dollars) and number of units produced will be limited."

Drop-dead gorgeously looking BMW's response to Audi's R8. Hybrid? Even better! Add it to this http://images.google.com/images?q=Toyota+FT-HS and these will be hybrids to show'em all who's the daddy.

They should revive the 8 Series name plate and make that their designated super car.

Looks to me like an Audi R8 without the thick B-pillar and a BMW front end. Not very original in design, but the technology seems fairly interesting.
