Razzle Dazzle: Who Has The Better Museum Porsche Or BMW?

Razzle Dazzle: Who Has The Better Museum Porsche Or BMW?

This Saturday, Porsche throws open the doors on a gleaming new museum designed by Delugan Meissl. But is it even the best car museum in Germany? Does the Porsche Museum, near its Stuttgart factory, stack up to the BMW Welt, which opened in Munich a year ago? Let's compare them in pictures, blow by blow:

Like the Porsche Museum, BMW Welt (designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au) has a dramatic approach. Its signature is a vortex of metal and glass which had architecture critics gushing:

Compare that to the Porsche Museum. The faceted shape has become fairly familiar, thanks to architectural razzle dazzle from the likes of Zaha Hadid and Daniel Liebeskind, but it does have a major advantage: Each one of the building's faces looks unique.

I love BMW's "vortex of metal and glass." While both are cool, that spirally thing is just ... wow... absolutely amazing.

I like the interior of the vortex, but I'd prefer the less predictable blueprint of the Porsche. (I haven't seen either one in person too, but pictures are worth a thousand words :)

Porsche design should land in this museum. And never come out of it ;-)

I have personally been to the new Mercedes-Benz Museum and the new BMW Museum as well as Audi. I am planning a trip to the new Porsche Museum perhaps next weekend. From what I have seen so far, I would rank the Mercedes Museum above the BMW Museum based on the number of exhibits. I have a feeling that the Porsche Museum will probably out-exhibit the Mercedes Museum so we shall see. The Audi Museum is a bit small and I felt that there was too much of a particular time period lacking in that regard. I bear similar feelings toward the BMW Museum. It's really just a quick walk-through with "a few" of BMWs most famous cars in it. Either way all of them are probably great museums in their own way. Porsche Museum is going to be visited this coming weekend most likely. Will be taking pictures with my new Nikon D90!

Try to make it back to the BMW Museum as well as the Welt. The original 1973 Museum was extensively expanded and remodeled and just reopened in June of 2008. The Museum is across the street from the Welt and next to the Plant. All three have incredibly interesting tours of their own that each deserve a day to experience. The Welt, which opened in the fall of 2007, is unique in the automotive universe. It is a customer delivery center. It is a showcase of current and future vehicle design and technology that offers hands on experiences. It features regular jazz concerts. The business center and auditorium hosts conferences for various companies and industries. And, of the many shops and restaurants, my favorite is the International which is operated by the same company that caters the BMW Formula 1 team. Try to take all three tours, they are amazing experiences.

Dear LexusbeautyQueen,

Lexus will never have a museum as nice as BMW. BMW always has the bestest things no matter what anyone says. Even though it might not be as nice a Lexus museum would be it doesn't matter because BWM is always the best, my fashion mag says so. Why are we even comparing Lexus to BMW? We all know that Lexus makes horrible and yucky cars that aren't reliable like BMWs are. Remember, magic is better than anything out there.

Never, Lexus is only a Japanese make and can NEVER!!!!!! be a rival to BMW or the established true luxury cars (BMW, MB), that's just what my German car magazines say and all my cool hipster friends. I believe them, although I've only driven my 1995 318ti.

BMW Museum is the better of the two, but the MERCEDES MUSEUM still RULES.
